The Blind Leading the Ignorant

As MikeB didn't ask for his keys back...

Following up on an earlier article about the Dallas-area mayor who killed herself and her daughter, several updates.
First, it appears the mayor had financial and mental health problems.Second, we now learn the mayor got the gun from another mayor:
Cedar Hill Mayor Rob Franke lent a handgun to Coppell Mayor Jayne Peters six days before Peters used the gun to kill her daughter and then herself.
Franke gave the Glock 17 9 mm pistol to Peters after she expressed an interest in getting a concealed handgun license. Peters first expressed interest about a month ago, after a meeting with other city officials in North Texas, Franke said.

Gunloons are often so eager to spread their fetish they make decisions they really have no business making.

Well yeah. When you're a state worshiping fascist, any decision a human being makes free of government "influence" is a decision they have no business making.

  4. FWM: As the article notes she was interested in obtaining a CCW.

AR: The fact is gunloons are loaning out their weapons to people--many of whom shouldn't have them. With the results that we see in Coppell, TX.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. But that does not change the fact that she did not have a CCW, mark my words.

    Summary:
JADE-She has a CCW, mark my words.
    FWM-You are wrong once again.
JADE- Well, she wanted one so I'm not wrong.

  6. Jade: As the article notes Peters went to great lengths to conceal her intentions.

Feigned interest in CCW is nothing more unusual than Peters' scheduling meetings and keeping up appearances.

An anti changing their mind is nothing new either. Heck many people (not I, though) believe President BHO did that too.

This has nothing to do with Franke's decisions. Someone as determined and meticulous as Peters didn't need him to do this.

She may have even done this as a political anti-gun statement--she apologizes to the first responders (clearly knows the brutality of the method--often avoided by suicidal women for this very reason) but doesn't acknowledge the repercussions she laid on Franke.

She goes as far to ask that the pets who are closest not be separated but completely shuns the effects of her actions on the people around her. Very cold.

  7. Poor Jade, he was also proved wrong about the Emcore shooting in New Mexico. No CCW was involved there either.

Seriously doubt he will be able to pay up on the wager he laid on the table.

  8. Jadegold, Thanks for the followup on this story. The main point of the update that I can see is the fact of one gun owner loaning his gun to someone who shouldn't have one. I agree with you this is a too frequent situation and should be severely punished. I say one strike you're out, you hand your gun to someone else once, you forfeit your god-given inalienable right, the one the saintly Founders intended for each individual.

So when I go to the range with my friend, and we exchange guns for a session- we both lose our rights forever? Also, the only way to shoot any gun is to buy it. How is that going to reduce the number of guns in this country?

  10. Just off the top of my head, TS, let's say if you exchange guns at the range with your shooting buddy, you're OK. But, if you give your buddy a gun for him to take to the range and use, you commit one strike and you're out.

    How's that sound?

About the other thing, how about if we require background checks to rent or test guns at a range?

Stupid, impractical, unlikely to solve the "problem" and un-American. In other words, the perfect anti-gun, anti-freedom response to any issue that even remotely involves firearms.

  12. MikeB: “About the other thing, how about if we require background checks to rent or test guns at a range?”

Would that be the NRA’s instant background check, or the Brady’s one that takes five days? I can’t see how a background check would have any impact on saving people from committing suicide, but if it makes you happy then I don’t think it is a big deal to have to wait 10 min before being cleared for test firing. The problem is; I don’t think that is what will make you happy.

As for lending; what you are talking about goes hand in hand with your little “gun show loophole” regarding private transfers. It is already illegal to sell or provide a gun to a know felon. A compromise would be to open up the NICS to the public and still maintain private party transfers. In this case, the system can also be used to verify that you are not lending a gun to a prohibited person. It takes the vague “known felon” language out of the equation by providing means for us to know. It is perfectly reasonable for someone to be able to borrow their friend’s .44 mag to do some occasional flinch training without having to go buy their own. Remember, you are the one who wants fewer guns in this country.

Do we know you? Do you have another internet name besides anonymous? C'mon, man-up and start using it again.

  14. Sure, sometimes I'm known as Anony-Mouse. Occassionally, I'm anon a mouse.

You, however, may call me "Mr. or Mrs. Anonymous, as the case may be."

    Thank you.
