Missouri Teachers Prepare for Battle

Huffington Post

In Missouri, where they have the greatest ratio of gun shops to libraries and museums, rather than do anything about the problem of gun availability to the dangerous and unfit, this is their answer.

  1. An interesting program. It sounds a lot like the federal flight deck officer program allowing pilots to be trained in armed defense of the crew. Considering that teachers have already undergone background checks, with the training provided, they'll be neither unfit or dangerous.
There have been several school shooting that we have talked of here that could have been much worse were it not for the quick intervention of someone armed.

    1. But, wouldn't it be better if we did everything we could to prevent the dangerous and unfit from getting guns in the first place?

    2. Mike, even if all of the proposed laws being pushed got passed, some of which would have had no effect on these shootings by the way, and even if these laws did work positively to reduce school shootings, any real effect would be years off.
However, we have hard data that a quick armed response to an active shooter greatly reduces the severity of the event. And its something that can be put in place pretty quickly. The problem is that gun control advocates suffered knee jerk opposition to the concept simply because it was suggested by the NRA.
Even the President recognized the utility of the concept by including it in his list of solutions to the issue. In essence, gun control advocate seem to suffer from the same narrowness of mindset that they accuse gun rights advocates of having.

    3. You're living in a dream world. The evidence you talk about has nothing to do with those teachers who were shooting a few founds off at targets and doing push ups when they hit the wrong target. These people will be a total liability.

    4. If a positive effect is years off is that any reason not to pass laws that can help curb the problem? Many laws take years before they have the intended positive result.

  2. Can't wait for the inevitable students death, or injury from a teachers gun. Some teacher will leave it in the bathroom, or a student will grab at it and it will go off, or a teacher will catch it on a counter and it will go off, or a teacher will drop it and it will go off. The chances of a deadly mishap with so many teachers carrying is 1,000 more probable than a school being attacked by a mass killer.

    1. Yes. And the ways these teachers will misuse their guns does not end there. By encouraging more of them to own guns, there'll be more guns stolen, after all, they refuse to even discuss safe storage laws. The stolen guns will go immediately into the criminal world, some of them will be used in killings unrelated to the schools. It's a total disaster, a program that exacerbates the already dire situation.

  3. That gun will sit in a drawer, and some kid will figure out when the drawer is open, and someone is going to be killed.
