Florida Gun Owner Shoots and Kills his 7-Year-old Daughter - No Charges

Local news

A 7-year-old girl died on Sunday from a gunshot wound to the head in what police said was an accidental shooting, the Panama City Police Department reported.

PCPD received a 911 call at 10:30 a.m. Sunday reporting a child had been shot at the Andrews Place Apartments, 1914 Frankford Avenue, according to a police report. Upon arrival, PCPD officers found the girl had been struck in the head by a bullet fired by her father from a handgun, according to police.

The child was transported to Bay Medical Center Sacred Heart, where she later died, police said. PCPD reported “it appears the shooting was accidental.” No other details of the incident were initially reported by the PCPD.

The investigation is ongoing, PCPD reported.

  1. It's okay, that little girl was the price freedom loving people have to pay if they want to keep their guns. That was sarcasm by the way.

    1. Beach Bum, Keep in mind that the investigation is just 24 hours old. Mike likes to throw in the "no charges" label when the authorities actually take the time to conduct an investigation and apply basic rules in regards to whether to arrest immediately or not.
I don't think you'll find anyone here that would suggest that a person shouldn't be held accountable for their negligence with a firearm.

    2. When it's a felon who does this, he's in the slammer that night regardless of whose kid he killed. That proves that they don't take so called accidents seriously enough. You often blame it on the mourning and the funeral arrangements and whatever, "he's not going anywhere" you often say, but the real reason is they don't treat negligent and irresponsible behavior with guns seriously enough.

Mike, I've mentioned quite often the reasons for immediate detention. If a felon is in possession of a firearm, that's an immediate felony and there isn't much to investigate.
I've also suggested before that this would be an excellent issue for the MOMs or Everytown to push in an effort to reduce negligent actions with firearms. Safe storage or other laws mean nothing without consistent enforcement. That's one reason we still have many felons still lying on FFL purchase forms in attempts to purchase firearms. Because very few are prosecuted for trying.
Pushing prosecution of negligent behavior with firearms would be an excellent issue to push since I believe most prosecutors are elected at the county level. Something you would think a "grass roots" group like the MOMs would be perfectly suited for.
And something potentially much more likely to have a positive effect than coming up with open carry memes to harass Kroger.
