Please tell me what you think about this.
I had the distinct impression that many of my gun-loving friends were all for Palin because she supported their gun philosophy. Of course no one admitted that even when pressed; it wouldn't be very flattering. But I'm afraid, just like so many blacks wanted O.J. acquitted 13 years ago for no better reason than that he was black, many gun owners like Palin for no better reason than that she likes guns.Maybe it's just human nature; I'm really not trying to make a big deal out of it.
But, the same guys that I suspect are guilty, or partly guilty of this, also seem to be saying that Obama doesn't believe in the 2nd Amendment and that he's into gun control big-time.
It seems to me it just ain't true.
What do you think?
Mike,
ReplyDeleteI would have thought by now you would do your research before posting. This is another case.
First, do you really trust anything a politician says during campaign season? Both G.W.H.Bush and Clinton promised not to raise taxes, right?
"No New Taxes" What happened, both raised taxes.
Second, we have a saying in our house 'What you do speaks so loud I can't hear your words'.
Guess what Obama has done?
Not respect 2nd amendment rights.Let's go back a while; Obama was a director on the Board of the Joyce Foundation - source of funding for many anti-gun organizations. Check out some of the other facts about Obama here:
Gun Ban Obama
This is a quote:
"The bottom line is this. If you’ve got a rifle, you’ve got a shotgun, you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it away. Alright? So they can keep on talking about it but this is just not true. And by the way, here’s another thing you’ve got to understand. Even if I wanted to take it away, I couldn’t get it done. I don’t have the votes in Congress."
So, if he can get enough votes in Congress would he take our firearms? I think so.
What has been his record, has Obama supported gun control or not?
i agree with Bob on words versus deeds, and that Obama's actual record is clearly that of an anti-gun politician, no matter what he might say now. that's not enough to convince me not to vote for him, but i'm not a single-issue voter. guns are neat, and to some extent important, but they're not the be-all and end-all of a politician's record or of an election.
ReplyDelete(in fact, i should sit down and write up my thinking on single-issue voting some day. i don't approve of it, and i think i have good reasons.)
and yeah, Obama will raise taxes. look at our economy, look at our deficit and our foreign debt. no matter who gets elected, they will have to raise taxes; there's no way out of our fiscal problems otherwise. it's too bad that the candidates apparently feel they can't just come right out and admit to that, but what are you gonna do, politics being the art of the possible.
Obama has never met a gun control law he didn't like and is on record as being against concealed carry permits and even availability of firearms to non-state agents.
ReplyDeleteBiden AUTHORED a lot of the so called "assault weapons" ban that Clinton signed and, as every politician has his favorite "go to issue", Biden's has always been gun control. He's proud of that fact.
McCain seems generally indifferent to firearms and Palin is a Life Member of the NRA.
Joyce Foundation involvement is highly Relevant regarding Obama's views.
Nomen.
ReplyDeleteThe Second Amendment protects the rest. I find it valid to be a single issue voter against gun-controllers when we already have a pretty advanced police state in place and for most purposes we have a one party system anyway.
As to What can guns do vs. a modern army/police state? Follow the link.
Mike, what's the story with this recent rash of sloppy blogging.
ReplyDeleteThe above have stated how Obama has proven to be one of the Most Anti-Gun senators currently (and possibly EVER) serving in US Congress, he has signed on to every form of Anti-Gun legislation that has ever come in reach for him, he comes from one of the most Anti-Gun Cities in one of the most Anti-Gun states in the country, and he has made every effort to support the Status-Quo. Note this even ties back to all the times he's voted "Present" rather than "yea" or "nay" on the majority of bills he voted on....but when it came to restricting gun rights further in a gun and crime capital of the Nation, "Yea" was what Obama always said.
Also nobody has addressed this sloppy point:
"many gun owners like Palin for no better reason than that she likes guns."
We've all made our stances perfectly clear why we like Palin. One reason is guns. Also she's a Small Government conservative, she made her career off seating corrupt Republicans, and she made a large number of campaign promises (none involving guns, as we're talking Alaska here) that she kept to her word as Governor in the short time she's been in office.
Mike, I read many liberal blogs on a regular basis because I like to see the perspective from the other side. This is one of the only ones I regularly comment on, I do it because you're respectful, and intelligent on your posts, and your discussion of the issues.
Posts like this, and others that seem to overlook basic facts for the sake of a left-wing agenda only cheapen what is overall a wonderful blog.
I hope to see you rise above this.
