Clinton: It's Easier to Buy an Assault Rifle than to Vote

  1. "In fact, a ThinkProgress analysis found that anyone can obtain assault rifles from unlicensed dealers at gun shows or online without a background check in 39 states."

    Mike,
The two activities above are called private sales. If a person make a living from selling firearms, they are required to have an FFL. FFL's at gun shows have to run background checks also. Private sales across state lines are required to go through an FFL.
The seller in a private sale is not supposed to sell to a known prohibited person. If he does, then its a federal felony. This is a lot like someone getting in trouble for supplying liquor to someone underage.
The gun control lobby has been pushing the statistic of 80 to 90 percent of citizens favor background checks foe private gun sales. It would be fairly easy to set up access to NICS for private citizens to run their own background checks.
This was even proposed by a Senator from Oklahoma, but it didn't fit with the paradigm being pushed by the Democratic party. If this access were allowed, sales with no background check would fall to 10% if the claimed numbers are correct.

    1. TP failed to mention private sellers, which was the big point of contention over at the TTAG. The point is clear though. It's too easy for prohibited people to buy guns.

  2. States where an "assault rifle" costs around $10?

  3. Oh really? I vote by mail. I automatically get a ballet mailed to my house with an information guide. I fill it out, put it in a provided envelope, and drop it in the mail (without the burden of licking a stamp or paying for postage). But Clinton says buying an “assault weapon” is even easier? The NRA (who is in the business of selling guns, obviously) sends me a form to fill out every year, complete with a propaganda filled “assault weapons buyer guide” that contains the pros and cons of .223 vs. 7.62X39 including a rebuttal section where half the sentences are all cap (YOU DON’T WANT TO BUY A PEA SHOOTER, DO YOU!?!?). And then it just shows up at my house. But it’s easier than that, he says? Does the NRA also send a goon to my house to read the form to me, accept the risk of a hand cramp by filling in the circles for me, and massage my feet? What does he think goes on exactly?

But let’s get back to this map. It is saying all 50 states require an ID to vote? Huh? I have never presented an ID to vote. Some red states have recently passed, or are debating passing voter ID laws, but that is not what this map shows. This is a bigger doozy than his “half of mass killings have happened since 2004” lie.

    1. I'll also note that my ballet has a box at the top for "straight ticket" voting. No longer do you have to bother looking for (R) and (D) next to the name and spend the time filling in multiple "arrows"- just one box at the top to vote for a straight Democrat (or Republican) ticket. Thinking not required.

    2. TS, why don't you just say you never have a driver's license so therefore it's a lie that all 50 states require one?

    3. Why does this map look so different than Bill Clinton's?

    4. There's a good reason that Clinton supported gun control. He has a strained relationship with the truth.

  4. Funny thing those voter ID laws. In Georgia, where they instituted their law five years ago, one of the toughest in the nation, it seems like minority participation in the voting process has increased, dramatically outpacing population growth for those groups in the same period. ( via a study by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.)

And in my state, South Carolina, regardless of the new voter ID law they're trying to get passed, I've always had to show a photo ID to vote.

Legitimate voters will not be disenfranchised by voter ID laws. The only people hurt by these laws are the politicians who rely on the "Zombie" vote and the Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck votes.
