We've discussed this before. The city government spent many years blaming the lack of gun laws for their failure to have an effect on violent crime. Last year, the Chief said that they would be targeting gang violence as a new tactic. In fact, it does seem to be showing some results, though its early to start declaring the issue solved.
"As of November 25, the city had recorded 377 murders, a 20% decline from the 472 that occurred last year by this time. It’s the fewest to date of any year since 1965, according to Chicago police. The total number of shootings and shooting victims is also dramatically down. There have been 692 fewer shooting victims, 2,148 this year compared to 2,840 during the same time period in 2012. And shootings are down by 562, from 2,261 to 1,699." http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/what-you-dont-know-about-crime-chicago
They are still having to contend with their issues of credibility though.
“If you ask me it feels worse, like it went up,” said Ellyson Carter, a community organizer with Action Now, a non-profit social and economic justice group. “We appreciate the police department for trying to make change in the community, but I just don’t trust their numbers. It almost feels like they are covering something up.”
And then perhaps a larger issue is that its easy to forget that the numbers mentioned are real people,
“If 15 people died in one neighborhood last year and 10 people died this year, people don’t see the difference between the two,” Smith said."
I do sincerely hope that the city has pound a solution to their long present problem with violent crime.
So now your little idea of counting up all the non-gun-friendly states in the top 15 as "proof" comes up with the opposite conclusion. There are 4 or 5 unfriendly cities in the murder list.
Newark, Baltimore, Oakland, and Chicago. Then you can argue about Detroit being on the fence (located in the Brady Campaign's 11th best state). This is the count that you called "proof" less than a week ago.
By the way, that top 50 list was a different thread, and was global. This list shows Chicago as the 14th worst in the nation. The global list is worse for you since most aren't in the USA.

ReplyDeleteNo, I don't think there were, and besides this list is 50 not 15.
