Whatever theoretical merit there may be to the argument that there is a "right" to rebellion against dictatorial governments is without force where the existing structure of the government provides for peaceful and orderly change. There is no debate that it is within the power of the Congress to protect the Government of the United States from armed rebellion if these mechanisms exist. No one should believe that it is not within the power of Congress to prohibit acts intended to overthrow the Government by force and violence as long as these institutions exist.
Paraphrase of Dennis v. United States, 341 U.S. 494 (1951)
Lets go with someone more radical than Jeff Cooper today. How about a Minnesota politician by the name of Hubert Humphery,
ReplyDelete"Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. This is not to say that firearms should not be very carefully used, and that definite safety rules of precaution should not be taught and enforced. But the right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, and one more safeguard against a tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible."
If that's the way you gun loons looked at and treated gun use today, I would agree, but of course it's not so your point is dishonest as usual.

DeleteThat's the key point. But, as much as I hate to even entertain the bizarre notion of civilian gun nuts in the US fighting off a government that has the weaponry Laci often posts about, I'd have to say it's a sick fantasy, absolutely outside the realm of possibility.
For that to mean anything, the government would have to be operating under the law of the land, the Constitution, which it is not.

Too bad you're legal opinion is meaningless.
DeleteYeah, just like yours and Pooch's on gun rights.

I cant believe you posted this one Laci. I do get it but do you? It seems to me that this goes against everything that you have argued. Do you actually read, or just gloss over thinking you have something to hold over those that don't agree with you.
