Florida Leads in Kid Shootings

12 comments:

  1. "There have been 14 unintentional child shootings in Florida so far this year, tying Texas and Ohio, it's not a top honor Floridians want."

Both Texas and Florida already have safe storage laws in place. And of course, they don't mention that accidental gun deaths of children have dropped by over a third since 1999. Or that during that period, five of those years, the number fell below 100 with it dropping to 78 in 2012.
And while its a great thing that the MOMs are making recommendations regarding safe storage, the NRA and the NSSF have been doing it for quite a bit longer, including doing real live training and providing gun locks to those that need them.

    1. There's that lie from SS again, claiming the NRA leads in gun safety instruction.
He nit pucks your numbers backwards, just like he tried when I showed his numbers were only .05% of the problem he was claiming. Just as dishonest as one can get, that's SS.

I imagine you wont bother to include a cite for when you showed me that?
As for my claim regarding safety training, do you have any data you could share about the number of people the MOMs have given any kind of safety training to? Or any one of the gun control lobby's groups?
The only training I've heard of was their attempt to educate journalists on the proper way to write about gun violence.

    3. The supposed safe storage laws in FL and TX are not strong enough especially in regards the sanctions.

But, but, but . . . when I noted the perverse ridiculousness of expecting gun owning parents to be more deterred by the penalties imposed by a so-called "safe storage" law than by the potential of a tragic shooting involving their children, you said that "most gun owners" will docilely abide the law because it's the law, rather than because of the penalties.

Now, though, when confronted with the inconvenient truth of such laws being disobeyed on a scale you find unacceptable, it's because the penalties aren't harsh enough--too few gun owners in cages. In other words, you would seem to be trying to argue that the potential death or maiming of their children is not enough of a deterrent, but tack on some jail time, and they'll lock up their guns tighter than Ft. Knox.

    5. Nice of you to prove what a liar you are by claiming you don't recall the conversation, but it's in print for all to read. Next lie SS.............

    6. I never said most gun owners will docilely obey toothless laws that they figure they can ignore with little downside. Everyone thinks "it'll never happen to me," but if the sanctions were sure and swift felony charges and loss of gun rights, you can bet many would comply that don't now.

Mike, why do you advocate swift and sure prosecution of gun laws here, yet don't seem concerned at the terribly low rate of prosecution of prohibited persons attempting to purchase a firearm illegally?

Should be pretty easy for you to disprove. We'll wait. I mean, unless you're lying....

    2. And I present People's Exhibit A, of the standard response from the gun control cabal. Obfuscation, misdirection and pejoratives...and packaged in a fact-free and unsubstantiated rant, behind the cowardly 'Anonymous'.

But then, we knew 'Anonymous' couldn't back up his/her claim from the beginning. Trap baited, set and sprung. Bravo.
