San Bernardino shooting suspect Syed Rizwan Farook.

Farook has no known criminal record, Burguan said. He was born in Chicago to a Pakistani family, raised in Southern California and worked at San Bernardino County's Department of Public Health for two stints totaling four years since 2010, according to authorities and acquaintances. The Saudi Embassy said he traveled to Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2014 for nine days.

  1. Can you be a lone wolf terrorist when you and the wife do it together? To include building IEDs? I haven't seen him at any of the gun nut meetings I've been to.
You should consider holding off on pronouncements such as this for a bit to let the facts develop, as they seem to be fairly quickly. There are already reports of him being in contact with known terrorists.

    2. Does "lone-wolf" literally mean "acted alone?" I didn't think so.

    3. "Islamic State said on Saturday that a married couple who killed 14 people in California in an attack the FBI is investigating as an "act of terrorism" were followers of the militant group based in Syria and Iraq. "

"CNN and other news media outlets reported the Facebook posts on Malik's page included a pledge of allegiance to Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
FBI officials said mounting signs of advanced preparations, the large cache of armaments amassed by the couple and evidence that they "attempted to destroy their digital fingerprints" helped tip the balance of the investigation."

I suppose that next you'll be wanting to see their membership cards.

Well Mike, at what point does he lose his lone wolf status? The concept of forming into groups, or cells was developed in order to preserve operational security. Especially within insurgencies. So what's the minimum member required to be considered a cell? In this case, I'm seeing two.
I recall an old saying from the Soviet era, "Two can keep a secret if one is dead"

  2. "Federal investigators believe there is a "very serious" possibility that Tashfeen Malik, one of two shooters who murdered 14 people and wounded 21 others in San Bernardino, Calif. Wednesday, radicalized her husband and co-assailant, county restaurant inspector Syed Farook, Fox News has learned.
Investigators also believe that the couple had planned a second attack after the shooting at a social service center for the disabled when they were killed in a shootout with local authorities approximately two miles away."

"Investigators believe that on at least one of those trips to Saudi Arabia, one or both members of the couple made contact with suspected Al Qaeda terrorists. The exact nature of that contact was not immediately clear."

"Law enforcement sources told Fox News late Thursday that there was a "very strong" possibility that Malik functioned as Farook's terror trainer and may have even put together pipe bombs found by authorities at the various crime scenes Wednesday."

"As part of the complex investigation late Thursday, authorities were trying to piece together a money trail that would have enabled the suspects to acquire over $30,000 worth of guns and explosives. Public records show that Farook made approximately $51,000 per year as an employee of the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, making it unlikely he could have afforded such an arsenal out of his own pocket. There is no evidence that Malik had a job."

Here's a question Mike, lets just say that Farook gets mad at someone at work and decides to shoot the place up. At what point does it stop being just an instance of "workplace" violence? Does it still count if he decides to target multiple county agencies or facilities just because he works for the county too?
You might be able to sell the workplace violence if he had just targeted even say the building he worked in, but now we potentially driving around town targeting other facilities.
It also introduces a very different paradigm with the wife appearing to be wearing the pants in the family. Not exactly following the stereotypical submissive Muslim image. And the wife is a Pakistani citizen. I'm trying to think back, weren't the Pakistanis a bit upset with us for some reason? Something about our government blowing up residential areas with missiles.

    1. As my title suggested, I think it was both. I think they were planning an attack, perhaps one that would have been much worse, but when he got pissed off at the colleagues he said fuck it let's go. The wifey was right there with him.

I disagree Mike. From what I'm seeing, they seem to have practiced pretty good OPSEC. And investigators are saying that this was a well prepared attack. So you're suggesting that since he got into an argument with a coworker he planned a completely separate attack and scheduled it before the planned attack?
I personally think that the argument he had was the only break in his act and it was due to him knowing that it wasn't going to matter if a complaint was sent to his supervisor.
I'm going to be interested in seeing how far back plans for this attack goes. Maybe his working for the government was part of the plan?

    1. Great gotcha. Pretend the meaning of "lone wolf" is literally "on his own with no one else along for the fun."

    2. Oh boy. It's Opposite Day again in MikeB's kindergarten. No Mike, "Lone wolf" literally means acting alone. That's what the "lone" part is for.

I don't know why your diminishing his wife's role in this so much. I wouldn't be surprised if she were the instigator.

  4. Except for the facts that his neighbors saw multiple middle-eastern males in and out of his garage(bomb making factory), except for the fact that he was know tovthe FBI and was in contact with other radicals, except for the fact that he committed the shooting with his Muslim wife, except for the fact that he modified those legal firearms against state law.... Your article is spot on......

    1. If he wasn't a lone wolf, it's not because his wife came along for the ride. He might have been a member of a terrorist cell, in which case my title is wrong and he really wasn't a lone wolf.

So on what grounds should he have been denied access to firearms?

    1. Any number of reasons, Kurt. You should learn to wait for the investigation to finish before asking such questions, don't you think?

Of course I don't agree with that nitwittery. It's never too early to ask questions. In fact, you have it precisely backward. What can be done too early--and you have enormous problems with this--is reaching conclusions before there is anything approaching adequate informational basis for them.

Yep. Waddya' think Mikeb wants to happen here--people of Middle Eastern origin (or, in Chicago-born Farook's case, mere Middle Eastern descent), and/or adherents to the Muslim faith, be subjected to more intense scrutiny, and more oppressively curtailed rights, than other folks?

What's next--Mikeb throwing his hat in the ring for the GOP Presidential primary? Should I start calling him Mike Trump/Cruz/Christie/ Carson?

  6. Whelp, it also appears that he was breaking the law by buying a firearm for his filthy foreigner radical-Muslim-ISIS-loving "wife"....

  7. Like your man Obama said, fighting Global Warming/Cooling/Climate Change will show those terrorists, besides, that's more important than fighting terrorism.
I suppose it could have been a workplace dispute over Paternity Leave.

  8. Whoopsie, now they are investigating a $28,000 deposit and subsequent withdrawal, days prior to the attack, dousing any idea that the attack was some off the cuff act of workplace violence, this along with the renting of an SUV rather than using their own vehicle showing mor premeditation on the murderous muslims part.

Maybe we should have a little better screening of the ugly piefaced fiancee visa program???

Ugly wives make you want to commit murder.
