Another thing to annoy you.

The gun show sketch from the Richard Pryor show.

Check out the voice overs...a pre-Mork Robin Williams, who was part of the cast of the show!

Of course, this might get too close for comfort for some of you.

Upstate New York Gun Shop was Easy Pickin's for Burglars

Local news reports
Authorities say thieves broke into Tom's Guns and Ammo is Sodus overnight Friday.

Store owner Tom Putnam says the burglary was bad enough to potentially put him out of business. Putnam has been selling guns at his Sodus store for 20 years.

"They gained entry, which took them a little time, and probably in and out of here in less than five minutes," said Putnam.

He says thieves broke in through a side window and stole 62 handguns, cleaning out three display cases in his store.
Gun shops with inadequate security on the windows and doors should be held responsible for this kind of thing. Just like individual gun owners, gun shops need to practice safe storage and that means making it a bit more difficult for thieves to take the stuff.

Why is this such as difficult concept for the gun-rights crowd?

New Mexico Gun Shop Employee Shoots Customer by Accident - No Charges

Local news reports
A 65-year-old man is in stable condition Tuesday afternoon after being accidentally shot at a gun shop on Hudson Street in Silver City.

Silver City Police Chief Ed Reynolds said an employee at Copper County Sporting Arms was unloading a .45 caliber handgun when the weapon went off and hit the customer in the back.

No names are being released at this time. The investigation is ongoing, Reynolds said, and it is unclear whether any charges will be filed.
It's unclear whether any charges will be filed, wink, wink.

Indiana Gun Shop with Inadequate Security Gets Robbed

Local news reports

Several rifles were stolen from a Columbus business.

Police officials told the newspaper a passerby noticed around 6:30 a.m. that glass was broken at Peddler Firearms, 1630 Home Ave.

The business owner said long guns were taken after the thieves cut locks securing the weapons.

Columbus police officials told the newspaper they’re eager to get the weapons off the streets because they are “extremely dangerous in the wrong hands.”

The missing weapons include:
  • Mosin/Nagant, 91/30, 7.62 mm rifle
  • Mosin/ Nagant, 91/30, 7.62 mm rifle
  • TGI, Romanian AK-47, 7.62 mm rifle
  • CAI, Yugoslavian SKS, 7.62 mm, rifle
  • Rock River Arms, AR-15, 5.56 mm rifle
  • Stag Arms, AR-15, 5.56 mm rifle
  • Mossberg, 715T, .22 caliber rifle
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
I have some information. Gun shops should have reinforced glass that cannot easily be breached. They should also have their merchandise secured in proper gun safes that cannot easily be compromised.

Gun shops, like individual gun owners, need to be more responsible for the security of their guns. Failure to do this should be a crime.

Detroit Gun Shop Robbed - Thieves Arrested

The Detroit Free Press reports

Five young men from Detroit are now facing criminal charges, and a juvenile suspect was placed in a youth home.

According to Livonia police, an officer was on patrol at 2:50 a.m. Oct. 4 — just a few hundred feet away from Shooters Service gun store at 29502 Six Mile Road — when the suspects crashed the van through the shop’s window. Once inside, they smashed display cases and began stealing long and short guns.
"Through the shop's window?" What kind of security is that? Shouldn't gun shops have better protection than that?

Houston Area Gun Shops - Easy Pickin's

Local news reports that a rash of gun-store break-ins has strongly contributed to the gun flow.

Do you think there's a jewelry store in that area which can be breached in a few minutes like that gun shop in the video? Do you think the diamonds and gold would be left out in the open, easily accessible to the thieves?

Why do gun shops have such low standards of security?

With all the emphasis on the "right to bear arms," and the self-serving philosophy of "only blaming the thief," gun owners and gun shop owners are far too lax in their security measures.

The Pennsylvania Gun Shop that Gets Broken into Every Six Months

The Times Leader, a small news outlet in Wilkes-Barre PA, reports on the incredible and reprehensible irresponsibility of a certain gun shop owner.

Gun Hippo owner Norm Gavlick said Tuesday that about $5,000 worth of merchandise was taken.

“A cinder block was used to bust the glass, and they blew the rest out with their hands,” Gavlick said, noting the whole incident was caught on surveillance video. “I could see immediately they took a bunch of handguns.”

Gavlick’s store was the site of an attempted break-in a few weeks ago, he said, and of another burglary in July.

In the July incident, according to police, 10 handguns were taken. The ATF also assisted in that investigation that led to arrests, Gavlick said.

Can you smash the window of a bank and grab a bunch of money in the middle of the night?  No?  Why, then, can you do a smash and grab in a gun shop, and not one time after which they take proper precautions, but twice?

Here's the best part, talking about taking responsibility.

Gavlick said he believes his and other gun shops in the area are targeted because people convicted of certain crimes cannot buy or possess guns legally.
Get that? This guy must read The Truth About Guns where they continually blame the cruel and unusual gun control laws instead of the poor persecuted gun owner who breaks them.

What's your opinion? Do you think gun shops should be required to take special precautions against break-ins?

Gun Shop Robbery in Wisconsin

Local ABC News reports on the ease with which thieves can steal guns in WI.

Officers said someone smashed a window on the front door and then broke into several display cases and stole weapons.
The pro-gun apologists love to tell us how stupid we are to expect criminals to obey laws. Actually, we don't say that, but the gun-rights crowd love to say we do. The truth is we understand that very well and that's why gun control laws are usually aimed at the law-abiding gun owners.

Another favorite argument of the pro-gun folks is that we can only blame the criminal for wrongdoing. Any mention of the possibility that the "victim" of a gun theft was remiss is met with derision and accusations of "blaming the victim" along with rape comparisons. It's tedious to say the least.

My understanding of it is this. A thief would be 100% responsible for his actions and the gun owner would be 100% responsible for his. If improper storage of guns makes it easy for the thief, then there's plenty enough blame to go around for everybody.

Gun owners have been hiding behind this charade for too long.

Let's take the example of Fletcher Arms, inc. Don't you think they were somewhat lacking in the security measures necessary to prevent this type of crime? I do. Here's the litmus test.  Could those brazen thieves have done that to your average bank or jewelry store? Of course not. Only gun shops think they don't need to adequately secure their merchandise and then when something happens they and their supporters say, "hey, don't blame me, I locked the front door."
