Armed Voter Intimidation in Wisconsin?

If you wonder why I prefer the UK to the US.  Yesterday's referendum was carried out in a peaceful manner, despite strong sentiments on both sides.

On the other hand, it seems that in the US some people feel that they have a right to prevent people from voting.  I believe there are federal laws which prevent this sort of activity, but still:

In Wisconsin, it is a Class I felony to use or threaten to use force, violence, or restraint to compel a person to vote or not vote in an election. It is also a felony to impede or prevent someone’s ability to vote in an election, to bribe voters, or to coerce someone to vote for a particular candidate or ballot measure.

Voter intimidation is also illegal under federal law. The Voting Rights Act and the National Voter Registration Act make it a crime for election officials to attempt to “intimidate, threaten, or coerce” anyone from voting or attempting to vote, or registering to vote.

Call the police immediately if you see these people.

The more I see of you, the more I am convinced that the US needs strong gun regulations.  The pro-gun side is the best argument for strong gun control.

Think of all the people who will do anything to fight voter fraud...

Yet, what do they do about disqualified persons who want to buy guns????



Wouldn't it also be funny if people who registered to vote, voted against the NRA's positions.  After all, the reality challenged right has brought about voter ID laws to try to prevent people from voting.

Maybe people will see these ads and realise they need to vote and vote against the NRA and the rest of the reality challenged right's agenda.

To use the NRA's own slogan against them:

VOTE FREEDOM FIRST..VOTE AGAINST THE NRA AND THE REST OF THE NEO-CON POLICIES

Voting is a right--gun ownership is not

Just remember that they want you to vote against your interests--and we have already had one party admission from you lot that you do it. Thanks for not being as "brite" as you lot think you are.

At least you have your guns...

You may be aware of the chemical spill that contaminated a river supplying water to hundreds of thousands of people in West Virginia. Officials say there wasn't much regulation at the site where the spill occurred and that little is known about the chemical that leaked.

On the other hand, US House republicans passed a bill that will gut toxic waste clean up regulations in the United States. H.R. 2279, otherwise known as ‘The Reducing Excessive Deadline Obligations Act’ would basically eliminate the power of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to impose clean up deadlines, following toxic spills like the recent WV spill.

That bill passed on the same day the Chemical spill poisoned the water in West Virginia.

But for some reason, guns are no matter how idiotic that proposition is when you really think about it.

You might want to read about how you are being conned into voting against your interests here--but I doubt you will.  It's nicer being conned than realise you've been conned.

I guess it makes it easier to kill yourself when you realise that fact.

Is it time, at long last, for the citizens of the United States to enjoy the constitutional right to vote for the people who govern them?

Phrased in that way, the question may come as a shock. The U.S. has waged wars in Iraq and Afghanistan justified, at least in rhetoric, by the claim that people deserve the right to vote for their leaders. Most of us assume that the right to vote has long been enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.
Not according to the Supreme Court. In Bush v. Gore (2000), the Court ruled that “[t]he individual citizen has no federal constitutional right to vote for electors for the President of the United States.” That’s right. Under federal law, according to the Supreme Court, if you are a citizen of the United States, you have a right to own a firearm that might conceivably be used in overthrowing the government. But you have no right to wield a vote that might be used to change the government by peaceful means.

FairVote, a nonprofit organization that leads the fight for electoral reform in the U.S., points out:

The right to vote is the foundation of any democracy. Yet most Americans do not realize that we do not have a constitutionally protected right to vote. While there are amendments to the U.S. Constitution that prohibit discrimination based on race (15th), sex (19th) and age (26th), no affirmative right to vote exists.
