Glenn Beck's Daughter

Scott Moss, as a third-generation gun store owner, feels he has his finger on the pulse of the nation. According to Scott, gun sales are skyrocketing because, "people are scared." Do you agree with that? Are the customers in your local gun store lined up three deep at the counter? Or, are these guys exaggerating?

If they're exaggerating, which I feel is a pretty good bet, the question is "why." Would that be to entertain the listeners, or something more like the fear-mongering of recent history? What's your opinion on that?

What do you make of Glenn's story about his daughters? "They both cried," after the shooting lesson. I read elsewhere, since I'd never seen or heard of this Glenn Beck before, that his eldest daughter has cerebral palsy. I wondered if it might have been a bit much to "teach" two girls to shoot when one is severely handicapped and the other is just 17. What do you think? Frankly, to me this guy seems like a bit of a bully. Anybody else see him that way?

  1. Unfortunately, Glenn Beck has a show.
Because there is no such thing as a "Fairness Act" in the United States, Beck feels free to use fear, hype and what ever tactic he feels he can exploit in his quest for ratings.
From what I have seen, he is a cheap manipulative liar.
He nightly predicts apocalyptic scenarios to scare the shit out of his brain dead audience.

In every instance where he has been quoted or I have seen a clip of his statements and segments of his show, I have never seen anything that resembled reality.

I take nothing but the effect he has on the dumbed down viewers he attracts seriously.

  2. Oh that pesky 1st Amendment. And that horrible 2nd Amendment.

There should be more limits on freedom!

Ahh the Pro-Ignorance anti-freedom crowd. They just have no shame!

  3. "just" 17? If he waited till 17 he waited too long! But...better late than never I suppose.

  4. Microdot, what exactly is a "fairness act?"

Mike, thanks for posting this. My daughter's 6th birthday is in April and I promised her a .22 rifle. Time sure does sneak up on you. Thanks Mike!

  5. I was 17 when I went into the military.

If you want evidence of the increase in firearm sales, just take a look at the sales figures. Go online and see how much ammo you can find.

Beck is an entertainer. He does his job. Some, like microdot, would prefer that the gov't take over the media and force opinions onto people that have failed when they tried to compete in the market.

  6. Mike,

Guess I'll play your research department since you can't be bothered to do your own.

According to Scott, gun sales are skyrocketing because, "people are scared." Do you agree with that?

Yes, People are scared that Obama will ban firearms. He is on the record as wanting to do such.

Are the customers in your local gun store lined up three deep at the counter? Or, are these guys exaggerating?

Yes, lining up 3 deep in places. No, these people aren't exaggerating.

Obama Driving Surge in Gun Sales, Firearms Groups Say
President-elect Barack Obama's election has spurred a surge in gun sales, firearms retailers and enthusiasts say, as gun owners brace for what they believe will be a new era of gun control in Washington.

An electronic news service that covers outdoor news has even named Obama its "Gun Salesman of the Year."

Firearms associations began to suspect that political considerations were driving gun sales late last year as the number of background checks increased. But end-of-year figures showed a big spike in background checks for the last three months of 2008, and in November, the month Obama was elected, the number of background checks was 42 percent greater than in November 2007.

Gun sales surge after Obama's election
"I have been in business for 12 years, and I was here for Y2K, September 11, Katrina," Conatser said, as a steady stream of customers browsed what remained of his stock. "And all of those were big events, and we did notice a spike in business, but nothing on the order of what we are seeing right now."

Weapons dealers in much of the United States are reporting sharply higher sales since Barack Obama won the presidency a week ago.

Buyers and sellers attribute the surge to worries that Obama and a Democratic-controlled Congress will move to restrict firearm ownership, despite the insistence of campaign aides that the president-elect supports gun rights and considers the issue a low priority.

If they're exaggerating, which I feel is a pretty good bet, the question is "why.

You lose your bet. That is the difference between us Mike. Gunnies will seek out the truth while you try to deny it.

What do you make of Glenn's story about his daughters? "They both cried," after the shooting lesson.

The clip also mentioned that they enjoyed shooting but cried afterward when they were thinking of the reason why they needed to learn to shoot. It isn't a safe world, the decision, the reality that sometimes another person's life must be taken to protect your own is a sobering and upsetting thought. But notice that it wasn't until after the shooting (which they enjoyed) that they cried. He isn't some mean dad forcing his kids to do something they hate.

Question is Mike, if you aren't teaching your kids how to handle firearms safely, how to shoot safely; WHY not?

We teach our kids "safe sex", how to drink alcohol, we teach our kids how to drive safely. If you aren't teaching your kids the full range of self defense, why not?

If nothing else, they learn to respect the potential in firearms and not to see them as toys. They learn to handle firearms safely and are less likely to make a mistake that gets someone hurt.

  7. I am relieved that no one here has so far tried to defend Glenn Beck or said that they had been "moved" by his phony manipulative emotions...
He regularly "tears up" on the air and uses his handicapped daughter to make a point about anything...Sarah Palin, Bristol Palin, Guns, Immigrants.....

  8. Mike, Why is it that everyone assumes people with Cerebral Palsy are "severely handicapped?"

I have CP and yet I own and shoot guns. I'm sure that if Beck's daughter went to the range with him that she's capable of safely handling a weapon.

  9. A guy who is like a brother to me has CP, and he can outwork a non-handicapped person. He also shoots guns.

As for the age at which someone is taught to fire a gun is not a problem for me. Children should be taught gun safety from the time they are young. I am not saying take them to a gun range and teach them to shoot. That should come only after they know gun safety. Then and only then should they be taught when to safely use a gun. Followed by how to use a gun safely. Age is just a number, what matters is the maturity of the child who is being taught how to use a gun. I think everyone here can agree to that.

Besides, if I had a teenage daughter, I would be inclined if she was mature enough, to teach her how to handle a firearm. You never know what might happen that she should have to use it.

Sexism and discrimination are alive and well on this 'progressive' blog.

  12. I am relieved that neither Microdot nor MikeB have attempted to defend or deny their fascist ways and desires for more ignorance and less freedom.

  13. Sexism and discrimination, that's a good one.

I'll spell it out for you. What I was doing was guessing, based on nothing more than a couple videos, that Glenn Beck is such a blowhard and bully that he forced the shooting experience upon his daughters, for their own good, of course. I guessed that the crying afterwards was nothing like the way he spun it for the audience. There's no sexism there; it had nothing to do with their gender, and no discrimination either. I wondered if the older girl might not have been more sensitive and protected because of her disease and her dad's attempt at this wonderful bonding experience at the range was just too much for her, which makes him even more of a bully.

  14. Mike,

Isn't that the root of your problem, guessing?

You guess that reducing the number of firearms would reduce crime.

You guess that common sense gun laws will reduce crime.

You guess about many things without learning the truth, without researching the issues.

Your guesses are messing with our rights.....I guess you don't care about people's rights, eh?

    That's how they roll!

  16. His "guess" also proves that he knows little to nothing about CP...

  17. Worse, MikeW, MikeB has a damn good handle on the facts when it comes to the 2nd Amendment. He'd just rather lie for the wrong side.
