Switzerland Shooting - Several Victims
Reuters
Several people were killed in a shooting late on Saturday in a town in the Swiss canton of Aargau, local police said on Sunday.
Officers responding to reports of shots found several bodies in and around a residential building in Wuerenlingen, a community of roughly 4,500 people north-west of Zurich, police said in a statement.
All those killed were adults and an investigation is under way, the statement said. It gave no further details and a police spokesman declined to say how many people had been killed.

North Carolina Senate Bill Promotes Firearms Class Warfare
Ammoland
A bill just introduced in the North Carolina Senate seeks to congeal what has slowly become the two distinct classes of gun ownership: the elite, political class, and the less worthy “common” class.
Initially, it was district attorneys and judges, and now Senate Bill 78 would provide for off-duty correctional officers to carry concealed weapons without a permit–something you can’t do.
It has also come to Grass Roots North Carolina’s attention that a House bill will likely be introduced soon to allow for concealed carry by politicians and staff in legislative buildings–something else you can’t do!
Which Class Are You In?
If you’re in the political class, then good for you! The State Legislature is pulling out all the stops to fast-track bills so you can protect yourself and your family without all that pesky paperwork and the boundaries that the common class is subjected to. Why, after all, should the state’s general citizenry, the people who pay the salaries of the government employees, be on par with the “political class” of gun owners?
In Support of Law Enforcement
Make no mistake, Grass Roots North Carolina (GRNC) is 100% supportive of law enforcement. In fact, correctional officers, judges and DAs, as well as legislators and their staff carrying defensive handguns would be nothing but positive. Yet, there ought NOT be two classes of citizenry in an ostensibly free state.

More on the Proposed Ammo Ban
Washington Examiner link from George Jefferson
A top police representative on Tuesday said that there is no history of criminals using a round popular among AR-15 rifle shooters against officers, undermining the Obama administration's argument for banning the 5.56 M855 "lightgreen tip."
"Any ammunition is of concern to police in the wrong hands, but this specific round has historically not posed a law enforcement problem," said James Pasco, executive director of the Washington office of the Fraternal Order of Police, the world's largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers, with more than 325,000 members.
He told Secrets that the round used mostly for target practice "is not typically used against law enforcement."
While he said that he is "not finding fault" with the surprise move last month by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to classify the round as "armor piercing" and then ban it, Pasco added, "While this round will penetrate soft body armor, it has not historically posed a threat to law enforcement."
That view not only counters BATFE's reason for proposing the ban, it also challenges the White House endorsement of the ban. Spokesman Josh Earnest said Monday, "we are looking at additional ways to protect our brave men and women in law enforcement and believe that this process is valuable for that reason alone. This seems to be an area where everyone should agree that if there are armor-piercing bullets available that can fit into easily concealed weapons, that it puts our law enforcement at considerably more risk."
The administration's effort is under fire on Capitol Hill where 55 percent of all House members have signed a letter challenging BATFE's proposal.
Many gun enthusiasts believe that the proposed bullet ban, up for public comment, is a backdoor bid to cut the popularity of the AR-15, the nation's most popular gun, one critics call an "assault weapon" and a target of liberals and President Obama.

Gun Range Near Schools
from ssgmarkcr
I came across this and made me think of your recent post about the couple who built their home at the end of a rifle range and are now wanting the range shut down.
I came across this and made me think of your recent post about the couple who built their home at the end of a rifle range and are now wanting the range shut down.
In this case, the range is being built in an area claimed to be "near" two schools.
People
living in Shingle Springs are taking aim against a gun range planned
near an elementary school, but the county may not be able to do a thing
about it.
The outdoor range would be built along Highway 50 near Shingle Springs Drive
on property owned by the Miwok indian tribe. Residents say that
location would be too close to homes, schools and everyday life.
El Dorado County Supervisor Brian Veercamp says he’s had calls
on both sides of the issue, but despite complaints, there’s nothing the
county can do to stop the tribe from building a range at that location.
“My
understanding is it’s federally trust land, through their protections
of that, they pretty much have the right to do anything they want on
their land,” he said.
He says they have to rely on the tribe being good neighbors, and doing their part to best keep the range safe.
Miwok lawyer AmyAnn Taylor says they will do that with 15-foot-tall berms to keep gunfire confined.
“We’ve also designed baffling that would be over it that would catch any errant bullets. And the targeting system
is designed to entrap the bullets and doesn’t even let it break apart,” she said.
An acoustic consultant
will also help try to minimize the sound of gunfire in the area.
However,
even if all of the safety concerns are addressed, it still boils down
to perceptions. It will be interesting to see where this goes
considering the jurisdictional issues in the mix.
“Even
when they dig it down, even if they put up baffles, our children will
still be playing to the sound of gunfire,” Tribble said."

Arma Virumque Cano Explained by Ammoland

Arma Virumque Cano, Free, Armed and Unafraid Since 19BC
(Ammoland.com)- “Arma Virumque Cano”
Translates to: “I sing of arms and of a man.”
Book 1, Line 1 from Virgil’s “Aeneid” ( tiny.cc/nm2mrx )
Two decades BC, Roman Poet, Publius Vergilius Maro (Virgil), used the above line to reintroduce the Roman world, in poetic form, to “Aeneas,” a wandering adventurer whose descendants, according to legend, founded Roman aristocracy.
Aeneas, first written about (again, in poetic form) by Homer eight-hundred years earlier in “Iliad,” was a familiar literary character to at least the educated of Roman society.
Virgil died in 19BC, at the age of fifty. His epic poem, “Aeneid,” was never finished.
In that age, and in Roman society, bearing arms was the badge of free citizenry. It was a right not extended to slaves, other “non-citizens,” criminals, et al.
In a “nation of equals,” bearing arms, then and now, conveys a special dignity and self-respect to the bearer, not achievable in any other way. When this right, for all good citizens, is confirmed and protected by a righteous government, it is tantamount to your nation saying to you:
“You’re an adult citizen, in good standing, within our country. You’re one of us! We, your fellow citizens, have full trust and confidence in your moral character and judgement. We trust you to bear arms competently and honorably for personal defense, and that you, thus armed, will gallantly stand with the rest of us when our nation is threatened.”
Rights and duties of citizenship are thus solemnly confirmed!

I suggest you watch it and weep before saying stupid shit.
But that never stops you from making irrelevant comments.

The US is falling behind in the Gun Rights Category
This is bad. Gun Loving Pakistan is showing that they value freedom, especially gun rights, far more than the US.
Pakistan's gun culture has been mentioned before--and they love their guns as much, if not more, than people in the US. Pakistan even has an equivalent of the Second Amendment as gun loons envision it in their Constitution!
Well, they weren't gonna be outdone in the mass shooting department by the US of A.
No way.
The Pakistanis, especially the Taliban, had to show that they were freedom loving people like their US counterparts with a massive school shooting.
At least 126 people, most of them children, have been killed in a Taliban assault on an army-run
school in the Pakistani city of Peshawar.
Peshawar--sound familiar? Yeah, it's the home of the Darra Gun Bazaar! It's Pakistani Gun Loon Central!
Let's toss in that the School was run by the Army.
I don't give a shit what you clowns think, but there were probably more "good guys with guns" on the spot than you could count.
I also doubt there will be much of a movement to try and ban guns in this part of the world as well.
But, this definitely changes the dialogue.
The Taliban know the real meaning of FREEDOM!
Live with it!

Ohio Gun Reform Bill goes to Governor Kasich
H.B. 234 is an 18 page reform of Ohio’s firearms laws, though most of the 18 pages are existing law. The reforms are simple commonsense reforms of provisions of state law that were unduly restrictive and made no sense. This was reflected by the large vote margins for passage of the bill; 24-6 in the Senate, 69-16 in the House.
The bill now goes to Governor Kasich, who has not indicated if he will sign it or not. Disarmists are already lobbying the Governor in an attempt to have him veto the bill. Governor Kasich has 10 days from receipt of the bill to either veto or sign it. If he takes no action, the bill becomes law without his signature. In general, laws go into effect in Ohio 90 days after final action by the Governor.
Some of the major provisions of the bill are:
- Creates reciprocity to recognize concealed handgun permits from other states, much as drivers licenses are recognized.
- Eliminates a provision in the law that equated semi-automatics firearms that could accept magazines with a capacity of more than 30 rounds as automatic weapons.
- States that the Ohio CHL will meet the requirements of the national instant check system. This should allow CHL holders to purchase firearms by presenting their CHL to firearms dealers.
- Allows for training certification by any “national gun advocacy organization” instead of the National Rifle Association specifically.
- Allows for partial training online, but requires two hours of in person range time for CHL permit training.
- Extends Ohio CHL permit expiration to the date of expiration on the permit, instead of upon change of residency.
- Provides that entry into parking lots with a CHL shall not be considered criminal trespass.
- Allows people in the Military, Peace Corps, and Service to America six months grace to renew an Ohio concealed handgun license.
- Creates as “Shall Sign” provision for chief law enforcement officers who process National Firearms Act (NFA) forms.
- Allows people with legal gun mufflers to use them for hunting game.

DC Concealed Carry Ban Unconstitutional
from ssgmarkcr
I just saw this come up. It seems that the US District Court in DC has ruled that the District's ban on concealed carry is unconstitutional. The Heller, McDonald, and Peruta decisions were all cited in the decision.
I just saw this come up. It seems that the US District Court in DC has ruled that the District's ban on concealed carry is unconstitutional. The Heller, McDonald, and Peruta decisions were all cited in the decision.
"In light of Heller, McDonald, and their progeny, there is no longer any basis on which
this Court can conclude that the District of Columbia's total ban on the public carrying of ready-to-
use handguns outside the home is constitutional under any level of scrutiny. Therefore, the
Court finds that the District of Columbia's complete ban on the carrying of handguns in public is
unconstitutional."
"Judge
Frederick Scullin Jr. wrote in his ruling in Palmer v. District of
Columbia that the right to bear arms extends outside the home, therefore
gun-control laws in the nation’s capital are “unconstitutional.”
"Judge
Sculin extensively referenced the Supreme Court decisions in District
of Columbia v. Heller (2008) and McDonald v. Chicago (2010) to
concluding “there is no longer any basis on which this court can
conclude that the District of Columbia's total ban on the public
carrying of ready-to-use handguns outside the home is constitutional
under any level of scrutiny.”
Of course, it will be appealed, and might end up like Illinois did.
Perhaps they'll even appeal it to the US Supreme Court, something that
Illinois decided not to do. We shall see.

An observation from a facebook friend
A facebook friend observes:
I have noticed one very big difference between guns rights supporters and gun violence prevention supporters.Interesting point.
Gun violence prevention supporters post pictures of their dead or injured children, spouses, parents, friends...guns rights supporters post pictures of their guns.

An opposing opinion
I have to admit that it is quite nice of the people at this blog to allow a raging "gun loon" like myself the ability to give the opposite side of the issue. After all, we know that the good old days were quite different from what they are now.
People like this solid citizen used to open carry and had easy access to firearms. There weren't many criminals and the ones out there didn't walk around with guns.
That point came to me when I was in my basement and heard a loud noise from upstairs. It was at that point that I realized I didn't have a machinegun the way granny did because of those gun grabbers. I would have had to make due with a semi-automatic pistol to deal with whatever intruder happened to be upstairs.
Unfortunately, it was my grandkid. At least medical science has progressed and the little monster will live.
But, I have to admit I miss the good old days when solid citizens like the one I have pictured here had access to machineguns, short-barrelled shotguns, and other firearms that are hard for the average citizen to own.
It's nice to know that some people out there agree with me and want to carry weapons like these on the streets these days.
Even better, they can shoot the police in Indiana. Hell, when grannie's friend John Dillinger did that sort of thing, the cops went and hunted him down. These people weren't criminals, they were otherwise law abiding citizens.
But, Johnny would be proud to be a Hoosier these days! Hell, he might even be alive thanks to the wise legislators in Indiana.
I miss the good old days and wish there were more guns out there in the hands of people that the law deems to be criminals.
But, they were good people who knew how to exercise their Second Amendment rights.

Missouri Gun Rights
from ssgmarkcr
I ran across this news item regarding a proposed change to the Missouri State Constitution.
"The amendment would define the right to bear arms as "unalienable" and require the state to defend against any "infringement" of that right. It would also include keeping ammunition and defending one's "family" with a firearm as guaranteed constitutional rights. The state constitution already protects the right to bear arms in defense of an individual's home, property and person. Supporters contend the measure would force courts to use a higher standard of review when considering the constitutionality of gun controls."One thing I found interesting was the mention of a failed initiative vote to require a shall issue permit system which even though spending in favor of the initiative greatly outspent its opponents, it still failed. After the failure to pass the legislation by initiative, it ended up being passed through the legislature. It will be interesting to see how this fares when it comes up for a vote.

Hillary Clinton: It's Time to Rein In Gun Rights

Politico
Hillary Clinton on Tuesday offered her most detailed comments on domestic policy in months, calling for tighter gun restrictions while also going to bat for Obamacare and warning that rising economic inequality is contributing to “social collapse.”
Hillary Clinton on Tuesday offered her most detailed comments on domestic policy in months, calling for tighter gun restrictions while also going to bat for Obamacare and warning that rising economic inequality is contributing to “social collapse.”
As to whether she’ll run for the White House, however, Clinton said she’s still mulling it because there’s “a cost to everything.”
The former secretary of state, who would be the Democratic frontrunner in 2016 should she run, was delivering the keynote address at a conference held by the National Council for Behavioral Health, an organization that focuses on mental health.
“We have to rein in what has become [an] almost article of faith, that anybody can own a gun anywhere, anytime. And I don’t believe that,” she said, as applause drowned her out.

Historical Fact the NRA and Gun-Rights Advocates Like to Forget

Now, of course, the promiscuous toting of guns is a God-given, fundamental-human and Constitutionally-protected right.
