Via Protest Easy Guns. If so many are in agreement, why do you think nothing is being done about this?

So many what? Anti-freedom liberals? So what if all the idiots in this video are on the same page, they are still just a handful of idiots. Fortunately the rest of the country does not agree with them. There is no gun-show loophole. It is a made-up problem.

My same old answer: While there are many gunowners who oppose more regulation on rights grounds, there are also many gunowers like me who are willing to compromise on a system that would enable and require private sellers to access the background check system at gun shows. The main obtacle to such compromise has been the intrangience and extremism of gun control advocates. For example: I would consider legislation giving private sellers at gun shows access to the current instant background check system, but gun control advocates want to ABOLISH the instant background check system and replace it with a mandatory waiting period system of 5 days or more, which is unacceptable to gunowners. Also, in some of those states which HAVE required checks at gun shows, gun control advocates have CONTINUED to attack gun showns there by attempting to ban them in the most popular (or sometimes only) locations. This recently occurred in California, and is obviously unacceptable to gunowners. Moderate gunowners are open to reasonable compromise: Background checks for sales by private sellers at gun shows IF gun control advocates agree to NOT abolish the instant check system and NOT continue to attack gun shows. But gun control advocates have NOT been open to reasonable compromise.

I don't know if that's the main obstacle. It seems to me the main obstacle is the massive lobbying effort on the part of the gun lobby. The gun control crowd has nothing to match that with.

And the gun lobby derives its power from the votes it can deliver for or against officeholders. Yet gun control advocates repeatedly produce polls that show support for some gun controls (i.e. gun shows) by most gunowners. So what explains that apparent discrepancy?

When moderate gunowners approach gun control advocates with reasonable compromise in mind, they wind up becoming educated as to the intrangience and extremism of gun control advocates, which drives them right into the arms of the hard-line gun lobby. If gun control advocates could gain the support of moderate gunowners, they could win against the hard-line gun lobby.

There WAS reasonable compromise involved with both the Brady law and the 1994 AWB. That pulled in support from moderate gunowners and both passed over hard-liner oppositon.
