How to Cook Bacon

Since FWM is eating bacon at 9PM at night???  As a public service, I offer the following article on the best way to cook bacon.

Be sure to read the comments, there are some good suggestions.  I endorse using a grill rack and dredging the bacon in flour, specifically fine cornmeal.

Of course, always being correct (it's a gift, y'know), I usually eat turkey bacon.

  1. Absolutely disgusting. The pig is a filthy animal, as Jules said. Eating the flesh of any animal is pretty sick, but this stuff is awful. Just think about it.

I guess it's good that Jadegold and I don't agree on everything.

  2. Jade and I can come to terms on this one. "dredging in corn meal". Yum.

And yeah, I was out Christmas shopping all day and didn't get home until late. Leftover bacon and some toast make a nice quick, late supper. Of course my endocrinologist will agree more with MikeB.

  3. At recent holiday party, I had a wonderful appetizer: bacon wrapped dried apricots.

  4. I'm not a big apricot fan but I'll try just about anything wrapped in bacon.

  5. FWM: “I'm not a big apricot fan but I'll try just about anything wrapped in bacon.”

Agreed. I’d eat anything if it were wrapped in bacon, including gun registration. Maybe that should be your new tactic. Wrap everything in bacon.

  7. Colin, The only thing worse than the idea of you and Jadegold agreeing on something is the pictures on those sites you provided.

  8. One two ounce serving of bacon, (you'll have to ask an aficionado how many slices that is,) provides you with 290 calories, 260 of which are fat calories, 960 mg of sodium, a generous 29 grams of pure fat, a whopping 11 grams of saturated fat and 13% of the daily allowance/requirement for cholesterol. The ratio of fat to protein is nearly six to one.

Why is it sold and consumed in virtually every restaurant, deli and grocery store in the U.S. in this, the 21st century despite the glaring risks to health?

    People are stupid??

  9. Because one of the great things about America is that we are (generally) free to make the decisions to do whatever we want as long it doesn't infringe on the rights of others. Very little (and certainly not bacon) is truly bad for you when enjoyed in moderation.

  10. That's it. If you guys don't quit talking about bacon, I'm gonna take kaveman's advice and quit blogging about guns. I'll start a militant vegan blog and delete all references to pig meat.

  11. One of the local (35 miles away) Chinese joints used to have a dish called Woo Dip Har.

Jumbo prawns wrapped in bacon, dipped in egg batter and stir fried with sweet onion and a light sweet-n-sour sauce.

    Damn good lunch.
