Indianapolis Gun Shop Robbed

Police last week seized 485 guns and $107,000 in cash from Williams' home.

Investigators also found gun accessories in two storage units Williams used. Prosecutors say he had $200,000 stashed in several bank accounts.

Hilton estimated that Williams took more than $300,000 in guns and gun accessories and $1 million or more in cash.
Should the owner of the gun store be responsible for any of that? Yes, indeed.

How else can we expect gun shop owners to be properly careful about whom they hire? Some of them obviously are not sufficiently motivated by the potential losses, they need to be constrained by law to be more diligent.

It's the same with the home owner who leaves unsecured weapons around the house and then shrugs his shoulders when they're stolen, saying "It wasn't my fault."

What's your opinion? Please leave a comment.

This guy was in a position of trust and decided to steal......

Williams worked part-time at Pop Guns Family Indoor Shooting Range, 30 S. Post Road. Mike Hilton, whose family owns the store, said video surveillance shows Williams, who had a key, stealing armfuls of gun accessories before and after business hours. He also took money from the cash registers and forged paperwork to make it look like seven guns he stole were legally bought by others, Hilton said.

The weapons were secured He stole them you pole-smoking douche-bag,

  3. You do realize, don't you, that when we read the blognome, "You're still a dumbass", if read aloud it sounds like YOU, the author are the one being called the dumbass.

I'm with you mikeb on this; clearly to steal this quantity of weapons and cash, it wasn't done at one time. There must have been multiple occurrences. My question is to wonder why this guy wasn't busted after his initial theft, and secondly, what kind of background check was done before he was hired. The number 485 guns is a heap of guns, that required not only this guys residence but TWO storage units.

Someone was less than dilligent in either checking this guy, or in following up on the losses in a prudent and reasonable manner. Which leaves me wondering how many firearms this guy sold, and to whom, in addition to the ones recovered.

At the very least, if I were the business owner's insurance carrier, I'd be dropping him like the proverbial hot potato for apparently not doing what was necessary to minimize furthre losses or damage, as is required by most coverage, and I'd be sure as hell looking at the owner for negligence for those reasons.

  4. To the first commenter I might point out that you're confusing two things. Homeowners who don't secure their guns properly are responsible when they get robbed because the guns weren't secured. Gun shop owners are responsible for the proper supervision and security of the business, even if the guns are secured. This guy did a lot more than was described on that video surveillance and he did it over a long period of time. The owner is responsible.

Don't get me wrong, the thieves are also responsible, but when sloppiness or negligence makes it easy for them, then the owners are responsible as well.

  5. Rape victims deserve prison too??July 31, 2011 at 5:53 AM

Homeowners who don't secure their guns properly are responsible when they get robbed because the guns weren't secured.

By your logic women are more guilty for getting raped than the Rapist..... if they don't defend themselves, which you want to prohibit them form doing by wanting to prevent them from owning guns....
