Nah, just Laci's dreaming of a monopoly on state sponsored violence....

  3. Fringie, there is no 'monopoly on state sponsored violence'.

There is the force of law; period, which applies to federal, state, county, local government, and our military. That law is the ONLY legitimate force, you don't have any similar personal 'right', not under the 2nd amendment, not under anything anywhere.
Never was, is not now, never will be any such 'right'.

You probably imagine there is some lost 11th commandment, "thou shalt have guns", too. No, nothing there either; not from God, not from the Constitution.

Does the force of law supercede our natural rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? If a government were to abridge those rights, do the citizens have a natural right to abolish that government by whatever means necessary?

  6. Jim, the natural rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are found in the Declaration of Independence, not the US Constitution.

The Declaration of Independence is an historic document.

The US Constitution is the Supreme Law of the Land.

So, the answer to your question is yes.

I suggest you have a seance to take your grievance up with the people who ratified the Constitution.

  7. Laci - in establishing our country, the Declaration of Independence asserts that all humans are endowed with certain inalienable rights (life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness). Don't these rights supercede any government law on a natural level? For instance, wasn't it right for the citizens of Germany to help Jews avoid the German government during WWII? It was clearly against the law at the time wasn't it?

Wasn't it right for the Middle Eastern citizens to rise up against their oppressive governments this past year?
Did you support the Libyan forces that were firing on these protestors? Did you think it was right for the government to shoot these citizens that were revolting?

  8. Laci - I miss stated that the Declaration of Independece "established" our Country. The Declaration gave the reasons as to why we were fighting against the British government, but did not in fact establish our government. But don't you think the people writing the Constitution would have been working from the basis of these inalienable rights that they declared gave them the right to leave the British Government?
