Michigan Woman Kills Herself by Accident

Authorities say a 55-year-old woman has died after apparently accidentally shooting herself in the head in southwestern Michigan.

The St. Joseph Public Safety Department says Christina Bond died at Bronson Hospital after being transported there following Thursday’s shooting.

The department says the gunshot wound to her eye appeared to be accidentally self-inflicted. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Middletown Police Lt. Scott Reeve said a group of friends were looking at a gun that one of the friends had just gotten when James Terrell, 35, of Middletown, accidentally shot himself in the hand.

“He (Terrell) didn’t think it was loaded,” Reeve said. “He has told us the first time he pulled the trigger he had his hand on the muzzle … and he pulled the trigger and nothing happened. He backed his hand off and pulled again and a bullet went through his hand and into his friend that was sitting next to him.”

The bullet traveled through Terrell’s hand and hit the stomach of Aaron T. Johnson, 27, of Monroe. Both men were taken to Atrium Medical Center where Johnson later died, police said.

Police say the gun was a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun that belonged to Dennis Wunn. Reeve says Wunn is legally allowed to own the gun and alcohol is not believed to have been involved in the fatal accidental shooting.

Police are still investigating the incident and no formal charges have been filed, but Reeve said a misdemeanor charge of negligent homicide could be filed against Terrell.

A man who was arrested Thursday after telling police he accidentally shot his friend is now facing harsher charges after the shooting victim died.

The 20-year-old employee, Eduar Martinez said that when his friend, 23-year-old Nicholas Alligood, came into Joy Grocery Store on North U.S. Highway 17, Martinez picked up a .380-caliber gun kept at the store for security and began handling it.

In a 911 call released Thursday, Martinez is heard speaking to a dispatcher about the shooting.

"I just, I just, I just hit somebody on accident with a gun," Martinez said to the dispatcher.

New Hampshire Man Slips on Ice Shooting Self; Death Ruled Accident

New Hampshire's attorney general says a Canterbury, New Hampshire, man died of an accidental gunshot wound to the head.

The report released Wednesday concludes that 53-year-old Mark Kelso's revolver accidentally went off before or after he slipped on ice on Feb. 23.

Attorney General Joseph Foster says Kelso was walking between his truck and a logging skidder when he fell and struck his head on the skidder's blade.

An autopsy revealed bullet fragments from a gunshot wound that entered through Kelso's face.

The report concludes Kelso may have been uncocking his gun when he slipped on the ice. It also states that homicide and suicide cannot be completely ruled out as possibilities; there was no motive nor evidence to support either of those causes. 

Dropped Shotgun Injures Kentucky Hunter

According to a Kentucky State Police report, James D. Goins, 24, Sacramento, and his wife, Hannah Goins, 25, were hunting off Kentucky 881 in the Reed community at about 1:20 a.m. James Goins accidentally dropped the 12 gauge shotgun they were hunting with. When the gun hit the ground, it discharged shooting him in both his lower legs.

The report said James Goins was able to walk to the road and seek medical attention. He was transported by ambulance to Methodist Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. Hannah Goins was not injured.

Michigan Man Charged in Daughter's Death

A 43-year-old man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of his 12-year-old daughter during a hunting trip.

Jose Enrique Lefebre-Toro was arraigned Thursday in 91st District Court in Sault Ste. Marie.

Shellsea was killed Sept. 21 when a rifle accidentally fired from the front seat of a vehicle she was riding in on Drummond Island, about 50 miles southeast of Sault. Ste. Marie.

The rifle was not in a case and the safety was off.

Authorities have said the girl was in the back seat with two adults and another child.

Michigan Man Injured by Dropped Rifle - No Charges

St. Joseph County deputies are investigating what they're calling an accidental shooting.

They say a 56-year-old man was working on a tractor in the area of Wing Road in Leonidas Township, when a loaded .22 caliber rifle fell off one of the tractor tires.

When the rifle hit the ground, it discharged, shooting the victim in the ankle.

The victim was taken to the hospital.

Right now, deputies do not suspect foul play or believe that alcohol or drugs were factors.

No foul play, no alcohol, no drugs, just bumbling stupidity and the failure to safely handle a weapon.
