A California pastor was accidentally shot during a gun safety class earlier this month. 

Instructor Phillip Rushing of the Personal Protection Institute in Modesto had just replaced his rubber training gun with a real pistol at the end of class when someone asked about how to handle an attacker with a knife, the Modesto Bee reported.

Tom Smith, a family pastor at The House Modesto who also helps with church security, volunteered to act as the attacker. During the roleplaying scenario, Rushing pulled out his weapon and shot Smith in the waist, above the hip, the paper said.

The man accused of shooting a Waffle House server over a smoking ban had only one question when standing before a judge for his initial appearance on Monday.

"Is the death penalty going to be involved in this charge?" suspect Johnny Max Mount asked Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain.

According to authorities, Brightwell was trying to get Mount to stop smoking in the restaurant when he pulled out a 9 mm handgun and shot her. She was taken to Merit Health Biloxi, where she was pronounced dead.

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said she died of a single gunshot wound the head.

Michigan Governor Promises Veto of Concealed Carry Expansion

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) on Friday vowed to drop veto ink on legislation that would allow concealed carry in some gun free zones.

The two measures, introduced in September, would end the curious practice that permit holders could only carry in these designated pistol free zones if their weapon was visible and replace it with one in which CPL holders could apply for an exemption to the zones themselves. The bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee in a 4-1 Republican-heavy vote last month.

Snyder, who vetoed a similar bill in 2012, this week told radio talk show host Steve Gruber, “I stand by that decision,” and affirmed when pressed that he would veto the latest attempt to expand legal concealed carry into gun free zones saying, “I’ve done it before.”

Snyder contends that unless a proposal allows for local control over gun free zones, he would be against it.

Gun control groups such as the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence acclaimed word of Snyder’s promised veto, calling it “great news.”

Michigan Permit Holder Allows 4-Year-old to Shoot Himself - No Charges

A 4-year-old boy shot himself in the upper abdomen Friday afternoon with his mother's gun in the parking lot of a grocery store in Troy, police said.

Capt. Bob Redmond said the boy's mother was loading up the family's car in the Kroger parking lot at Crooks Road and W. South Boulevard when the boy found the gun in the center console and fired it.

Redmond said the woman's 10-year-old son also was with them. He was not injured.

Police said the boy's mother is a licensed gun holder. The gun is a 9-mm Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun. Police said the trigger lock was not in place. The gun was loaded with 16 rounds.

The boy shot himself once in the upper abdomen. The bullet exited through his right thigh. His mother is with him at Beaumont Hospital. The boy is in stable condition.

"To carelessly leave an unsecured firearm in the glove box of a car, while you have kids, it's a little ridiculous at this point in time," said Redmond. "Every police department, I think, in the tri-county area supplies gun locks for free so you can lock your gun up. I don't know what more you can do to teach people to be safe with guns."

Texas Legislators Reduce Penalty For Guns At Airports

The Texas state legislature voted 139-0 to reduce the penalty for licensed gun owners who accidentally bring their guns to the airport.

Bringing a gun to the airport under any circumstances is a 3rd degree felony in Texas, a penalty that one legislator called a “massive inconvenience.”

Under the new law, CHL holders who are stopped by security will be allowed to put their guns in their vehicles or check it with their luggage.

“One of the big arguments is, ‘What if someone is trying to use it to gauge our security? TSA will record it. If you try it multiple times during the day, you will be targeted,” said Rep. Drew Springer.

Texas made it a felony to have guns at airports during the 1990s, when the state first started issuing concealed carry licenses.

The law generated national headlines when State Rep. Drew Darby was charged with a felony after trying to take a .38 caliber Ruger pistol through security at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in 2013.

Darby told security that he forgot the handgun was in his bag.

The number of guns confiscated at airports in the United States has reportedly quadrupled in the past decade, from 660 in 2005 to 2,212 this year.

Texas: On the Way to the Gun Range, Driver Shot by Passanger - No Charges

A driver was hospitalized Saturday after College Station police said a passenger in the crowded car accidentally shot the friend as they headed to a gun range.
The condition of the driver wasn’t known late Saturday, but authorities said the injuries “appeared to be non-life-threatening, according to a statement from College Station police.

The car carrying five friends was eastbound on Harvey Road near Texas 6 by Post Oak Mall when the firearm, which police declined to identify, discharged and hit the driver, authorities said. The driver was able to pull over safely, according to Assistant Chief Chuck Fleeger, who said the front passenger apparently was attempting to disassemble the firearm when it went off just before 3 p.m.

Officers at the scene said there was no indication of foul play, but an inquiry is ongoing, according to police. Further details were not available.

Kentucky gun owners can obtain concealed-carry permits faster under a new online application process that critics view as dangerous but others say pays heed to Second Amendment rights.

The process requires state police to either issue or deny a license within 15 days of receiving an electronic application — down from the 60-day processing period allowed for paper applications.

Rep. Jim Wayne, a Louisville Democrat opposed to the new rules, says state police are already hurting for personnel and that having officials process applications within 15 days could result in mistakes, such as approving permits for people with criminal histories.

"They are so overloaded and they should have the leeway to not be pressed to get this job done," he said.

City police said a man suffered an accidental gunshot wound inside a Burlington business.

The incident happened just after 2:30 p.m. Sunday near the sporting goods section of Dunham's Sports on Huffman Mill Road.

The victim, an employee of the business, suffered a gunshot wound to his upper leg. Police told WXII they think the self-inflicted wound happened with the employee's personal handgun.

There were patrons in the area when the incident occurred, but no other injuries were reported. The business remained open.

Since no charges are brought, the incredible record of permit holder behavior will remain unchanged.

Idaho Woman Shot and Killed by 2-Year-old

An Idaho nuclear research scientist who had taken her young relatives to Wal-Mart to spend their holiday gift cards was killed Tuesday when her 2-year-old son pulled a loaded pistol from her purse and shot her. 

Deputies who responded found Veronica Rutledge, 29, dead in the Hayden store's electronics department in what Kootenai County sheriff's spokesman Stu Miller described as a "tragic accident." Rutledge, who worked at the Idaho National Laboratory, was from Blackfoot in southeastern Idaho, and her family had come to the area to visit relatives.

Rutledge had a concealed weapons permit. Miller said the young boy was left in a shopping cart, reached into his mother's purse and grabbed a small-caliber handgun, which discharged once.

The victim's father-in-law, Terry Rutledge, told The Associated Press that Veronica Rutledge "was a beautiful, young, loving mother."

"She was not the least bit irresponsible," Terry Rutledge said. "She was taken much too soon."

A city firefighter has been charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and second-degree reckless endangerment after he accidentally shot a friend in the jaw while showing off a gun last month, police said.

Police said Justin Wood, 25, of East Hartford, turned himself in on the charges Wednesday.

Wood was showing the gun to friends at an apartment at 86 Webster St. Nov. 2 when it accidentally fired, striking Jose Medina, police said. Medina, 28, was transported to Hartford Hospital, where he initially was listed in critical condition.

After 17 days, the father of two, was sent home Nov. 19. His jaw had been broken into 100 pieces, and doctors had to wire it shut to allow him to heal, Medina's family told The Courant.

Medina's mother, Evelyn Flores, said on Wednesday: "My son is suffering. He is suffering big time with all the pain he has. He still has to go through more surgeries. Meanwhile, Justin is out like nothing happened."

Flores said that because Wood is a firefighter, she believes the incident was not taken that seriously by authorities. She said that if her son had shot Wood, her son would likely still be in jail.

Connecticut Bumbling Concealed Carry Permit Holder Placed on Administrative Leave from the Fire Department

A city firefighter has been placed on administrative leave after accidentally shooting another man overnight, public safety officials said Sunday.

The victim, Jose C. Medina, 28, is in stable condition, according to police. He sustained non-life threatening injuries to his jaw and neck, Deputy Chief Brian Foley said.

No charges have been filed against the shooter, Justin M. Wood, a 25-year-old East Hartford resident and Hartford firefighter. Foley said Wood is licensed to carry a firearm and has been cooperating with detectives.

The incident remains under investigation, Foley said. According to an incident report, the shooting happened just after midnight Sunday at an apartment on Webster Street. Wood was showing Medina the handgun when it accidentally discharged, the report says.

Wood has been placed on administrative leave until the investigation is completed, fire officials said. He has been with the department since December 2012 and is currently assigned to Engine Co. 5.

Missouri State Senator Jamilah Nasheed, Concealed Carry Permit Holder, Arrested While Carrying

   I came upon this and found it to be quite ironic. 

Missouri state senator Jamilah Nasheed is a supporter of harsh gun control laws… for other people.

She routinely carries a concealed weapon, even while possibly under the influence.

Missouri State Senator Jamilah Nasheed had a gun in her possession at the time she was arrested Monday night outside the Ferguson Police Department, according to Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson.

Nasheed declined comment about the having the weapon, but did tell News 4 she has a concealed carry permit. A Ferguson police officer said Nasheed was carrying a fully-loaded 9 mm handgun and additional rounds.

Sources also told News 4 Ferguson police requested St. Ann to administer a breathalyzer test at the time of her arrest because she “smelled strongly of intoxicants,” but Nasheed refused to do so. Nasheed said Tuesday she was not intoxicated at the time.

Nasheed was the co-sponsor of last years Missouri Senate Bill 124,  which would have required gun owners with children in Missouri schools to notify the schools that they owned firearms, and threatened to filibuster any legislation supported by the National Rifle Association.

I suspect that law enforcement would be well within their rights to revoke Nasheed’s permit for refusing to take the breathalyzer while carrying.

Ohio Concealed Carry Holder Misses Attacker; Shoots Another Man

A Ford Focus was traveling on West 116^th Street when the car ahead made an abrupt turn without using a turn signal and backed into his home's driveway.

The Focus stopped and the three people inside -- a 19-year-old man, a 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman behind the wheel -- argued with the offending driver, a CCW permit holder.
The trio in the Focus left after the argument, but soon returned.

The 22-year-old passenger got out of the Focus and hurled a bottle at the permit holder's car, cracking the windshield. The permit holder shot at the man as he sprinted away. The shooter missed his target and struck the 19-year-old man sitting in the Focus' passenger seat.

The victim was driven to MetroHealth Medical Center with gunshot wounds to his upper body and ankle. The shooter was arrested. No charges had been filed as of noon Thursday.

The bumbling gun owner shot at the man AS HE SPRINTED AWAY and MISSED him, HITTING another man.

Please take notice, this is something the gun-rights fanatics have claimed has never happened in the history of concealed carry. According to them, only cops do this, concealed carry civilians are inexplicably better at gun management.

Indiana Concealed Carry Permit Holder Gets Arrested in WalMart

Kenneth Pirtle was charged with criminal recklessness with a firearm after his handgun accidentally fired inside a Walmart in Jasper, Ind., on Sunday morning.

Pirtle, 65, was in a check-out line when he reached into his pocket and accidentally discharged his .40 caliber handgun.

The bullet shot through Pirtle's pants leg, hit the floor and then ricocheted into a wall, according to police.

Pirtle suffered minor injuries to his leg, but he refused treatment for reasons unknown.

Fortunately, there were no other injuries.

Police believe that other objects in Pirtle’s pocket might have helped cause the accidental shooting.

The incident is still being investigated.

Now, what's so hard about that?  The dangerous gun owner was arrested and the investigation continues.

Ohio Concealed Weapons Holder Accidentally Shoots Self, Driver

A concealed carry permit holder accidentally shot himself and another man while sitting in the passenger seat of a car on the city's East Side, Cleveland police said.

The shooting happened about 7 p.m. Sunday near East 103^rd Street and Pierpont Avenue.

The bullet ripped through the gun owner's hand before it passed through the driver's right leg and lodged in his left leg, police said.

Emergency medical crews drove the men to hospitals, according to spokesman Sgt. Ali Pillow.

Officers learned the man handling the weapon has a CCW permit, Pillow said. Investigators confiscated the gun.

I'll bet he gets his gun back with a stiff warning to be more careful in the future.  What do you think?
