Indiana Couple Charged in 6-Year-old Shooting

Police said a 6-year-old boy’s parents were arrested after lying about an accidental shooting in Muncie.

According to Lt Steve Cox with the Muncie Police Department, on Thursday night, officers were called to IU Ball Memorial Hospital on the report that a 6-year-old boy was shot.

The boy’s parents, Lamotta Roundtree, 34, and Elisha Wolfe, 35, told officers that their 15-year-old niece, who was babysitting their son, found a gun in the alley behind their house. They said the girl picked up the gun and it went off, shooting the boy in the groin.

Officers later determined that the 15-year-old girl found the gun inside of the home. Roundtree is a convicted felon who couldn’t have a gun in his home, according to Cox.

Police arrested Roundtree and Wolfe on Thursday night on the following charges:

• Aiding or inducing criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon
• Child neglect
• Obstruction of justice

Kentucky Man Arrested After Accidentally Shooting his Friend

A convicted felon has been arrested after shooting a man while showing off a handgun that he shouldn't have had.

John B. Brown II, 40, was arrested March 1 after the shooting in the 1200 block of Keswick Blvd. An arrest report says Brown shot a man in the foot while showing off one of the two handguns in his car.

Police found a loaded .38 caliber gun under the passenger seat and a loaded .22 caliber semi-automatic in the center armrest.

The shooting was ruled accidental, but Brown was charged  with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Here's the thing.  Shooting someone unintentionally through stupidity and negligence should be as much a crime as possessing a gun as a felon.  Either one should result in immediate arrest.

A five year-old Medford boy was shot earlier Saturday morning in what police are calling an accidental shooting.

According to the press release medical and fire crews responded around 8:30am Saturday to the home on West Jackson Street in Medford.

The boy sustained a gun-shot wound to the lower abdomen according to the press release. Police detectives were called to the scene.

During the course of the investigation detectives learned, according to the press release, that the boy found his fathers pistol. The boy's eight year-old sister attempted to take the gun from the boy when it discharged striking the boy.

As of 1:30pm Saturday the boy is in stable condition.

The boy's father was revealed to be a convicted felon and not allowed to own a firearm. He has been taken into custody on these charges: assault 3rd degree, recklessly endangering another and felon in possession of a firearm.

The video said it was a black-powder pistol.  Is that even possible? Can those things be stored loaded and ready to fire?

New Jersey Dad Arrested for Accidentally Shooting 2-Year-old Son

Aggravated assault charges have been filed against a southern New Jersey man who told authorities that he accidentally shot his 2-year-old son while they and other family members were in a vehicle.

Camden County Police say 38-year-old Sergio Rivera of Camden was also charged with child endangerment, drug possession and weapons offenses.

Authorities learned of the shooting late Tuesday, when they were called to the hospital where the boy was being treated for left arm and left leg wounds. But they say Rivera did not cooperate with detectives when they questioned him about the shooting.
