Maryland Considers Confiscating Guns from 110k Felons and Violent Criminals

More than 100,000 individuals in Maryland could become disqualified from owning their registered gun under a bill currently under consideration by state lawmakers.
According to the Associated Press, the Maryland House of Delegates is debating a proposal that would link the state’s gun and criminal registries, enabling law enforcement officials to more effectively seize firearms in the possession of those convicted of felonies or violent crimes.
Under Maryland law, anyone convicted of such crimes is required to relinquish their firearms. However, the chief sponsor of the proposed bill, Delegate Luiz Simmons (D-Montgomery Couny), said the law is incapable of truly being enforced if police cannot use their database to pinpoint the individuals in question.
If passed into law, the new bill would require police to run a check twice a year in search of convicted felons with registered guns. Police, meanwhile, believe the linked systems would lead them to disqualify 10 percent of registered gun owners. That amounts to approximately 110,000 people.
As noted by the AP, California passed a similar law back in 2007. In a statement released by Simmons, the lawmaker said that since linking its registries, the California has collected more than 10,000 guns from convicted felons and is working on rounding up another 40,000.

New York City Gun Confiscations Have Begun

(courtesy Mrgunsngear's Facebook page)

The Truth about Guns

New York’s SAFE Act is a bad, bad thing. It requires people to register, sell or transfer (out of state) “assault rifles” and “high capacity” magazines. Many Empire State gun and standard capacity ammunition magazine owners have complied. Many have not. So, at some point, the State’s gonna go get ‘em. People on both sides of the law enforcement divide will die and the s will hit the fan.

Funny we didn't see any bloodshed in Illinois or California where police have gone to collect guns from prohibited people. Why would we see it in New York City?

We won't, that's the answer. This is more of the laughable gun-nut self-aggrandizing nonsense that we've come to expect from them.  This is just more tough talk from weak insecure men who are anything but tough.  They fantasize about shootouts with the oppressive government thugs who are taking their freedoms away, but practically none of them have the stomach for it. Supposedly 3% of gun owners are of this intrepid type.  I think it's really more like .003%.

Proactive Gun Confiscations Aim to Prevent Violence in Santa Cruz County

The Santa Cruz Sentinal

The Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office has been working quietly on a program to keep guns out of the hands of felons and other offenders.
Operation Street Sweeper, spearheaded by the Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office, has checked up on at least 48 suspects since February, according to District Attorney Bob Lee.
Investigators in the project have tried to prevent violent crime by checking on three groups of people with gun restrictions: felons, domestic violence offenders and people with mental health problems.
"We wanted to do something a little more proactive," said Lee, who first spoke publicly about the project at an Aptos Chamber of Commerce meeting.
"A lot of these people don't have guns any more. We just make sure they're not violating the law," said Lee.

Husband's Guns Confiscated Because Wife is a Disqualified Person

The Blaze

Lynette Phillips of Upland, Calif., told TheBlaze in a phone interview Monday she had purchased a gun years ago for her husband, David, as a present. That gun, as well as two others registered to her law-abiding husband (who does not have a history of felonies or mental illness), were seized last Tuesday.

“My husband is upset that they took the right from us that should never have been taken, Phillips told TheBlaze.

But according to the state of California, that doesn’t matter.

“The prohibited person can’t have access to a firearm” regardless of who the registered owner is.
It's a damn shame, but what can you do?

The Humorous Paranoia of the Gun-Rights Folks

An op-ed by Warren Thomas in the Daily Republic.
What Democrats usually ignore is the deviousness with which President Obama, a consistent anti-gun advocate, plans to assault our Second Amendment rights.

By winning re-election Obama will have the freedom to bypass Congress without that nagging problem of being responsible to American voters. He can simply impose restrictive executive firearms orders.

Historically, at least two things immediately occur whenever legitimate governments fall to despots — guns are confiscated and voting is eliminated. We yet have a few days to prevent that from happening, but only a few days.
We often hear this kind of nonsense, but I'm wondering, how can a democratically conducted presidential election ever be confused with a "legitimate government falling to despots?"

Are the gun-rights folks so infantile that when they disagree with someone's politics they resort to calling them names?

Another oddity in their continual bashing of the possibility of gun confiscations is this.  Did England and Australia become tyrannical?  Did they do away with voting? Have they begun to round up their undesirables into concentration camps?

No, of course not.  So, even if the unthinkable happens in the US and the 2nd Amendment is abolished or eliminated, and all the guns are rounded up and destroyed, tyranny would not follow. The Republic would endure. Only the ego maniacal gun-rights fanatics think it all depends on them.
