How to win an Argument

NRA-style:
Portage Police Officers were called to the 7300 block of Starbrook St. for a shooting. Police found a twenty-six-year-old man bleeding from his left arm and upper body. Police tell us he had been shot by his wife with a shotgun.
When police arrived they found the man’s twenty-two-year-old wife treating his wounds. Medics treated the man at the scene and transported to Bronson Hospital where he is currently listed in stable condition.
Police say the couple had been arguing when the wife allegedly shot her husband one time with a shotgun at close range.

How many NRA/firearm industry front groups can there be?

Not to worry.  I'm on the case.

Kudos to US Women's Team!

NRA: Global Threat

Gunloonery contributing to instability worldwide:
A new study finds the global authorized trade in small arms, light weapons, and their ammunition is worth nearly $7.1 billion a year. In its annual report, the independent think tank, the Geneva Forum, also examines the serious impact small arms proliferation is having upon three so-called fragile states-Madagascar, Ivory Coast and Haiti.

Now, the typical gunloon response will be along the lines of 'Who cares what those furriners do? Let 'em kill each other!'

The problem, of course, is that problems elsewhere quite often wind up as our problems.  Particularly when instability in a region infringes on our allies and national security concerns.

Brothers in Arms

Gunloonery in Tennessee:
KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - A shooting between two brothers leaves one man dead and another in jail for first degree murder.
The Knox County Sheriff's Department says 50-year-old Jerry Stooksbury, Jr. is being held on a $350,000 bond for killing his brother 47-year-old Steven Stooksbury.

God Bless You, Betty Ford, Rest in Peace

Former First Lady Betty Ford was a supporter of gun control, despite criticism from the right.

She was an exceptionally brave woman, facing breast cancer in a manner which not only ensured her survival, but in a way to help other women to survive the disease. Thank you for that, Betty Ford.

She was a strong supporter of equality for women, for women to have control of their bodies, for rational attitudes towards sex, and for the Equal Rights Amendment.  Thank you for that too, Betty Ford.

She was courageous in facing the illness of addiction to prescription pain medication, and a related dependency on alcohol, founding the Betty Ford Center in California, in conjunction with the Eisenhower Medical Center in response to her own battle.  While it has been the treatment center of choice for many celebrities, it has helped tens of thousands of less famous people, through both inpatient and outpatient care.
She went on to establish the Betty Ford Center Foundation and the Betty Ford Institute to continue the work of the Betty Ford Center.

This is an exceptional legacy for any First Lady; thank you Betty Ford for a life time of rising to the occasion when faced with challenges and illness and criticism, so as to help not only yourself, but others.

Thank you Betty Ford; you will be missed.

Gunloons, Gunshows and Sovereign Citizens

Lately, we've seen an upswing of violence perpetrated or plotted by the so-called Sovereign Citizen movement.

This movement is not new; it's been around for several decades.  In fact, if you've ever attended a gunshow, it's almost certain you've seen their wares being sold as either books, pamphlets or videos.  Usually, these materials will tell you (for educational purposes only, of course) how you really don't need to pay taxes or get a driver's license or pay your mortgage and the like.

In fact, the ties between Sovereign Citizens and gunloon groups like the NRA and GOA have always been strong.  Larry Pratt, the leader of GOA edits the periodical United Sovereigns of America.

Gunloons usually like to portray themselves as patriotic. In truth, they oppose the USA.
