I couldn't help but laugh because of the timing of reading this, within a short time of writing a comparison and contrast between firearms and 'kitchen utensils'.

In that context, I hope this will amuse our readers; I've bolded the pertinent part:

A Chicago man was charged over the weekend for assaulting one man and stabbing another after breaking into two apartments in search of beer. Hotel event coordinator Tim Snyder, 36, broke into an apartment building around 4 a.m. Saturday, according to the Sun-Times.
Snyder allegedly entered one apartment and headed straight for the fridge.
When he didn’t find any beer, he allegedly punched a man and left, breaking into another unit. In the second apartment, prosecutors said, he struggled with another man, who he allegedly stabbed in the back with a corkscrew.
Residents of the building then subdued Snyder until police arrived.
The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he received 22 stitches.
While in police custody, Snyder allegedly threatened and spit at officers. He now faces two charges of home invasion, aggravated battery and aggravated battery of a police officer.
He has previous convictions for domestic battery and aggravated battery, police said.
After his arrest, Snyder told a police officer, “I’m gonna kill your ass. You can’t lock me up forever,” according to the police report.
He then said, "Want some AIDS?" and spat at the police officer, the report said, according to the newspaper.

Maybe what was needed was one of these in the kitchen utensil drawer, to assist equally in fine dining and home defense....

Anchorage Alaska Murder

The Washington Post reports

A disgruntled former employee opened fire in an Anchorage hotel and killed a manager, setting off a four-hour search that ended with the gunman’s arrest, authorities said early Sunday.

What do you think, was he another lawful gun owner gone bad? Or was he a disqualified person who had no trouble getting a gun for himself?

Either way, gun availability to unfit people is a big part of the problem, don't you think?

The man's name was Dr. Richard Jordan Gatling, inventor of the Gatling gun, pictured above. After inventing the weapon, Gatling wrote, "It occurred to me that if I could invent a machine – a gun – which could by its rapidity of fire, enable one man to do as much battle duty as a hundred, that it would, to a large extent supersede the necessity of large armies, and consequently, exposure to battle and disease [would] be greatly diminished."

Maryland Heights Gun Theft Nets 71 Weapons

Maryland Heights Police Chief Tom O’Connor says Tuesday’s thefts weren’t the first at the home in the 1900 block of Rule Avenue, “7,62 military ammunition was stolen some time back from the same resident.” O’Connor says that ammunition was taken from the home’s garage about a month ago, but the theft wasn’t reported until after the guns were stolen. O’Connor says it’s possible whoever took the ammunition, came back for the guns, but that’s not been confirmed. In fact, he says, police have no suspects at this time.

The victim was a retired policeman. He failed to report the ammunition theft, which might have alerted the local authorities to the fact that his home was a known target.

I'll bet he didn't have one of these babies either, which would have been well within the budget of the reward now being offered.

In other words, this former law enforcement officer made it easy for the theft to take place. For that he's 100% guilty and should be made to pay.
