9 Month Old Dead in Shooting : Enough is Enough

Too damned many innocent people die from gun violence.

And our gun nuts are part of the problem because of their resistance to measures which would possibly minimally inconvenience them, in order to reduce the number of guns in the hands of criminals.

Their more guns, no restrictions attitude kills people.  Innocent people's blood is on their hands.

The police Sgt. sums it up, enough is enough.

From MSNBC.com :

9-month-old Mich. boy dies in drive-by shooting

DETROIT – A nine-month-old boy was killed Monday after gunfire erupted into a house, shattering a neighborhood’s morning calm on the city's west side, police said.
Between 20 to 30 shots were fired into a house in the 8400 block of Greenview Avenue, near Tireman, investigators said.
Police said there were several adults inside the home at the time of the shooting. The baby had been in the living room in front of the house, they added.
The boy was taken to Sinai Grace Hospital, where he died.
"I believe that we as a community have to come together to stop this senseless violence," Detroit police Sgt. Eren Stephens told The Detroit News. "It's going to take everyone in this community to say enough is enough."
Neighbor Diane Fryst, 67, said she heard shots ring out and hit the floor.
"The shooting didn't last more than a few minutes," Fryst told the Detroit News. "It sounded like an AK-47 because of the 'pop, pop, pop' sound that it made. I've heard shots around here before so you get to recognize the sound."
No arrests had been made.
It’s the second time within weeks that a Detroit youngster has been killed.
Kadejah Davis, 12, was killed on Jan. 31 when a gunman fired through the front door of the home in which she was living with her mother, according to the Detroit News.

Is the Word "Invasion" Being Overused?

I’ve been meaning to raise another point about this. The word “invasion,” is being overused to the point of making it sound normal. Think about what an “invasion” really is. You’ve got your Genghis Khan, Attila, guys like that. You’ve got hordes of whatever you imagine overwhelming the defenses. That’s “invasion.”

But for you spin doctors, a simple break-in or any burglary becomes a “home invasion.” Now, Jake is even talking about the “invaders.”

You guys really give me a good laugh sometimes. And aren’t you glad you’ve got me around here to question these things? Left to your own devices there’s no limit to what you might arrive to.

Hannah Kelley Dead of Her Wounds

Hannah Kelley, 20, had been clinging to life after her injury in a freak accident last Sunday at Grace Connection Church in Lealman, which is led by her father, Tim Kelley.
"FREAK ACCIDENT," is that what they're calling it?

A freak accident is when the hubcap of a passing car comes off and hits your gun like a frisbee, causing a discharge. That's a freak accident. In this case Old Moises forget there was a round in the chamber, violating one of the 4 Rules and then another Rule was violated when someone touched the trigger.

But, in Florida they call that a "freak accident."

What's your opinion? Mine is that Moises should go to jail for a little while and lose his right to own and use guns for life.  That's what the One-strike-you're-out rule is all about.

Concealed Carry in California

on the newest attempts on the part of gun fanatics to recover from their defeat over open carry. Of course some of the die-hards are now carrying unloaded long guns in some of the most beautiful beach communities of Southern California. A more ridiculous image is hard to picture.

They're trying to use the fact that they can no longer open carry a pistol as reason for loosening the restrictions on concealed carry.

There is also gross inconsistency among authorities in California's 58 counties on what constitutes good cause, which could lead to courts finding equal protection violations, said Stephen Halbrook, a Virginia attorney and frequent litigator for the National Rifle Assn. In remote Plumas County, one in 39 adults has a carry permit, according to state Department of Justice statistics for 2011. In Los Angeles County, one in 33,700 adults is licensed to carry, and in San Francisco the latest records show zero civilian holders among the county's 700,000 adults.

Statewide, the number of civilians with concealed weapons permits is 32,666, or 0.1% of the adult population. That compares with about 5% licensed to carry nationwide, according to Calguns Foundation chief Gene Hoffman.
What seems clear from these incredible numbers is that all the claims about how good concealed carry is for us are bogus. If they were true, California and especially San Francisco would be home to frequent mass shootings because the bad guys know there's a "target rich environment." Isn't that the silly expression they keep using about gun-free places?

What's your opinion? Is California the leader in gun control policies that work. The Brady Campaign thinks so.

Pat Buchanan, Former Right Wing Presidential Candidate, Tossed Off MSNBC for Racism - Justifiably So

Pat Buchanan is no longer a contributer at MSNBC, in large part because of the large amount of outrage at his racism, a kind of racism that is not far from that lurking in the background of Ron Paul.  Buchanan was an at-will hire, he has the freedom to be free from government intervention in his freedom to speak and write what he believes.  And his employer has the right to discontinue his employment when those views are extreme and offensive, as they did in his case.

I wrote about the background of racism and anti-semitism of Pat Buchanan here, for readers not familiar with Buchanan's history.

Here is the text of the petition that was responsible - at least in part - for getting Buchanan canned:

Captain Beefheart Festival 2011-2012 - 11th Night of the Living Van Vliet

Here's the explanation of the origin and the dates.

Thanks to Microdot for the title of the Festival.

Zen Comix has joined the festivities.

It is a widely known (and kind of sick) fact of the music business that nothing helps sales of the back catalog of an artist like the death of said artist.

The massive sales bump caused by people rushing to online (and occasionally also to brick-and-mortar) stores and buying up on the classic works of the dead musician can be an event of industry-wide magnitude (many jobs at Sony were basically saved last year on the strength of post mortem sales of Michael Jackson's Thriller and Off the Wall).

So, what happened in the past few hours between the death of cult surreal blues genius Captain Beefheart and today?

Well, on one Amazon.com ranking, he had outsold the Beatles, the Stones and Pink Floyd! And he was holding up at unprecedented sales throughout all the other charts. With Trout Mask Replica--a CD Amazon didn't even have in stock and iTunes wasn't even licensed to sell.

Beefheart outselling the Beatles, the Stones and Pink Floyd? For some people, this is some kind of cosmic justice.

20 Reasons Why Ron Paul Sucks

via Mad Mike's America, telling me what I already knew but was trying to forget because I like the "ending the wars" idea. But one of the twenty points convinced me.

12. He is a gun nut. Our eyebrows are already raised by anyone who claims that having firearms is a “God-given right”, like Ron Paul does. But he doesn’t stop there. He wants to repeal the legislation that requires a background check when you buy a new gun — you know, to make sure you’re not, say, a  fugitive from justice, a violent offender, or currently stalking someone. Back when there actually was a ban an assault weapons, he was, of course, against the ban. And now that there isn’t, he wants to make sure Obama doesn’t get the chance to bring a new one in.
What do you think? Is it time I have to let go of my unrealistic hopes about Ron Paul?

But, but, but the other guys are so bad and he does oppose the wars.
