Britney's Legal Bill

It's all over the news today that Britney Spears was hit with a tremendous legal bill for the custody battle with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

The largest bill comes from attorney Stacy D. Phillips, who says in court filings that she is owed nearly $407,000 for four months of work. Phillips claims she has written off another $125,000 in fees.

Doesn't anyone else find that exorbitant? Did Ms. Phillips work full time on Britney's case for four months? I doubt it. No wonder lawyers have a bad reputation. Over at Terry Aley's News Links there's a good point.

Prestige and free advertising that goes with representing a major high-profile client? Priceless. They should be paying HER for billable time.

  1. Assuming no shady activites were done (double-billing, padded expenses, ect) Ms. Spears had to read and agree with the rates set forth when reataining her lawyer.

I mean somebody can pay $500,000+ For a Rolls Royce. That's an outragous cost, but its not exactly like the dealer told them he was buying a $20,000 Civic.

If Britnety chose to hire a lawyer so expensive, that's her perrogative....if she was too stupid to do the math herself, then its her own damn fault.

  2. i'm not going to comment on Britney Spears' intelligence or lack thereof, i'd just like to know what this person does that's so valuable as to be worth that level of remuneration.

over three times as much money per month as i, a salaried and college educated professional, earn per year? sure, she's better educated and trained than i am, and she may well be smarter and more talented than me as well. but by that much?

  3. The lawyer who charged such an outrageous fee was not even the one who negotiated the final deal. That one charged much less. Go figure.

  4. They were still hired by Mrs. Spears who was of sound mind and body (at least legally speaking)

So its really a non-issue, i have no problem with people spending their money however they want.
