The Age.com from Melbourne Australia says, "The toll of American dead in Afghanistan passed 1000 this week, after a suicide bomb in Kabul killed at least five US service members."
Having taken nearly seven years to reach the first 500 dead, the war killed the second 500 in fewer than two."
WUSA9.com reports on the funeral of Marine Cpl. Kurt Steven Shea of Frederick, Maryland. "Shea loved horses, but military values of "honor, courage and commitment" are what drew him to the Marine Corps, Rev. Goulet told mourners."
That's just a few. My own feelings on this are that Obama inherited a difficult situation from Bush with regards the wars and that the new president has failed miserably to improve upon it.

...and that the new president has failed miserably to improve upon it.
ReplyDeleteCome on, it was obvious from day 1 that there is no way the President could live up to this campaign promise. Why act all surprised?

ReplyDeletePerhaps, but the Taliban left in charge with Al Queda as their guests does not seem attractive either.

But he seems to have done better in Iraq.
he seems to have done better in Iraq.
ReplyDeleteThat is because of how the media has not covered the events in Iraq with as much attention as they did a few years ago. There are still car bombs going off and the government is ranked as one of the most corrupt in the world. American military power is used as an oil protection service. We are in Iraq and Afghanistan for the sole purpose of the energy we need to fuel our American energy consuming lifestyle.
We will be there until American goes bankrupt (ie when no one will buy our debt) estimated to be around the year 2020-2025, or we develop new alternative energy like climate friendly coal.
All the news framing and indexing of the military involvement by the US with terrorism and fighting the Taliban, is smoke and mirrors.
Blog readers have the ability and the time to get alternative views and information rather then the bullS&** spread by the mass media.

ReplyDeleteWhy, yes.
Something seems to have happened in Jan of 2009 that mysteriously has made the media much less interested.
Strange, that.
