Mayor Daley's Remarks

FishyJay provided the link for this Chicago Tribune article. John Cass really rips into Mayor Daley, partly because of that stupid remark the mayor made last week, but it sure sounds like Cass has an axe to grind.

What do you think? When the mayor said if the justices were attacked by thugs with guns they'd see things his way, Cass responded with this.

Chicago politics is a rough business. But suggesting that Supreme Court justices need to suffer before becoming enlightened is despicable. It not only embarrasses the mayor, but everyone who lives or works in Chicago.

His press aides put out a statement saying the mayor used "less than ideal" language when he suggested inserting the rifle into his critics and pulling the trigger.

And there was no word of any plans to apologize to the Supreme Court.

Now, c'mon. Is that a reasonable response? I don't think so. Has Mr. Cass lost his mind to suggest that it was so "despicable" that an apology is owed to the Supreme Court?

I find this to be the worst kind of pro-gun approach. This is exaggerated nonsense to the point of being ridiculous.

What's your opinion? Please leave a comment.

  1. If I had threatened to sodomize someone with a gun, i'd be a part of your alleged "10%". You'd be calling for me to lose my right to bear arms.

Will you, mikeb, call for Richard Daley to lose his right to bear arms?

  2. I don't know if that's true. If I claimed to not understand you were making a point about gun violence, and took you literally that you were threatening to sodomize someone, I would be guilty of the same bullshit that the pro-gun writers are guilty of.

If you have a good point, you don't have to resort to arguments like that. They're tricks and diversions.

  3. Daley's Supreme Court comment was just more ramblings from the Chicago madman and doesn't require an apology. I'm sure he knows that the members of the court have a good security detail like he does and thus does not need to worry with self defense.

However, if one of the justices had an "encounter" that would alter their thinking, more than likely it would be like that of Ohio Representative Micheal DeBose, a democrat from Cleveland, that was anti-gun until he was attacked at gunpoint. He then got a concealed handgun license and is very pro-gun now.

  4. Mayor Daley is indeed an embarrassment. Despite the gun bans Daley's city continues to lead the way in crime. No doubt in part to the political corruption that runs rampant here. Don't dare to ask his majesty why this is though, or you will be threatened with a gun going off up your ass. No wonder the Olympic committee decided to take a pass on Chicago.

RuffRidr's maxim: If the facts don't support you, just make some up.

Also known as the FWM Creed.

RR fails to notice that in terms of violent crime--cities such as Detroit, Kansas City, Memphis, St. Louis, Atlanta, Cleveland, Cincinnati, etc. all have higher murder rates. New Orleans murder rate is 3.5 times greater than Chicago's.

This is not to say Chicago is a crime-free utopia but those pesky facts show Chicago's crime rates are on a par with cities like Mobile, Buffalo, Tulsa, Columbus and Dallas.

  6. Of course, Mayor Daley just provided the NRA with a new slogan.

Can't you just imagine Chairman Wayne addressing the adoring throngs of fellow Enzyte ™ users:

    ...from my cold, dead rectum!

I think Mike W. just had a tingle...

Where did I say anything about the murder rate, or even violent crime rate?

Also, are we talking indoor or outdoor murders? Because Chicago is classifying them separately now. Apparently indoor murders don't count.

I guess the politicians in Chicago and their supporters will do anything to deflect the conversation away from their growing problem.

  9. Ruff's reading skillz aren't so good.

It's not that indoor homicides aren't being counted--they are. Instaed, they're being categorized seperately in order to take heat off the police,.

  10. Jade,

Can you answer any question at all?

Thanks for illustrating my point. Once again they come up with some scheme to juggle the numbers instead of actually doing something useful. No wonder crime (See, I didn't mention violent, or specify murders. And I know I have to point this out because you are so dense.) is so high there.

Does it bother you MikeB that your side has to compulsively lie?

I kept this one only to point out that it sounds like you think we're winning. That's funny. I thought you always said the opposite.

Also let me point out, Mike, that you are the number one offender around here at leaving comments which contain nothing but negative crap. You seem to never tire of criticizing the other commenters and myself without at all tying it into the discussion.

I don't want you judging things over here and issuing your statements on everything. You may have noticed a pattern, your comments that contain something substantial remain, the others do not.
