He's Done, and He KNOWS It.

I'm guessing that Herman Cain is fooling himself by waiting for another 24 to 48 hours to discontinue his campaign.  I doubt anyone believes this is REALLY about saving his family from stress; if that were the case, he wouldn't have been putting his family through the stress of the multiple sexual harassment accusations.  That THOSE were paid off, in at least a couple of cases, suggests strongly to me that they did in fact occur.

Rather this is everything about saving Cain's own face / ass.  This tells me that he really HAS had a 13 year affair, and that there is plenty of proof.  The phone records that show 4 a.m. phone calls rather convincingly belie that his relationship was about financially helping this woman, particularly when the relationship ever so conveniently ended just a week or so before entering the presidential race.  The man is a hypocrite.  That the right wing base in places like Iowa would excuse sexual harassment, but then get bent over a sexual affair, seems to me a questionable moral compass on the part of the right wing / conservatives polled over primary candidates.  Personally, I have no problems believing any of these claims about Cain; all his denials lack the ring of truth.

Stick a fork in yourself Herman; you're done and past done.  And after this.... I can only wonder what your future job prospects are going to be.  Because apparently you're not only stupid about current events in Becky Becky Stan, and Libya, you're not able to keep your private parts in your pants, and your hands off the female employees; and your track record as a CEO is in reality considerably less than distinguished.

But I'm betting some think tank, probably funded by the Koch Brothers, will provide a comfortable niche out of sight of the media for a while.  That seems to be the unofficial golden parachute for failed right wing culture warrior failed politicians.  Maybe they'll give you an office next door to Michele Bachmann, if she doesn't manage a gig over on Faux Nuisance.

The "I didn't do anything wrong, but I have to protect my poor pitiful weak wife and kids from all that stuff I didn't do" line, in my opinion, merely increases what I think of here as the 'sleazy weasel factor'.  In point of fact, I would credit his wife and kids with more moral fiber, courage and strength of character than the asshole candidate Herman Cain.  Taking this tack multiplies the consequences of his failing; it does not mitigate or ameliorate it in any degree whatsoever.

Herman, you're pond scum.

Reassessment= political speak for my re-ASS-essment is grass, and the press and my political adversaries have a lot of lawn mowers.

I have to wonder if a new disappointment and condemnation of Cain over an affair is going to translate into a revived unhappiness with Nut Gingrich and HIS inability to keep his bits in his pants, not to mention HIS hypocrisy in having an affair while condemning Bill Clinton for far less egregious sexual misconduct.  Bill was wrong, Bill was bad, but Bill didn't divorce Hilary, and he didn't go all the way, while Newt rounded all the proverbial bases a few too many times.

So, it's unlikely Nut Gingrich will last; there's too much newt news coming out about him for that to happen.  Who will be the next not-Romney flavor of the month?

From MSNBC.com:

Cain tells staff he's reassessing campaign

Will the newest recent allegations Herman Cain seal his fate?
Herman Cain told senior campaign staff members Tuesday that he's "reassessing" his campaign in the wake of a fresh allegation that he engaged in a 13-year-long extramarital affair.
Steve Grubbs, the candidate's Iowa campaign chairman, confirms to NBC News that Cain said he's taking a step back, much as he did after his finish in the Ames Straw Poll in August, to evaluate the direction of his campaign. The call included Cain's 50 state directors, and the reassessment will occur over the next two days.
This reassessment coincides with a new allegation from Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who says that she and Cain engaged in an affair for well over a decade, one that ended only recently. Cain has denied the affair.
Cain reiterated his claim, made yesterday in reaction to the new allegation, that White was simply a friend who he had sought to help financially, and that nothing inappropriate had happened between the two of them.
The former Godfather's Pizza CEO, who has faced a string of different allegations of sexual harassment, also said that he had no immediate plans to cancel his campaign events; he still intends to deliver a major foreign policy speech tonight in Michigan.
But Cain acknowledged the emotional toll that the claims against him had taken on his family. He said yesterday on CNN that he would stay in the campaign as long as his wife continued to believe he should stay in the race.
In the same interview, though, Cain opened the door to a possible exit from the race.
"It's just the way it is, but I'm not going to allow this sort of thing to cause me to drop out simply because it's tough on me. I don't want it to be tough on my family. And there comes a point that if it's tough on my family, I have to consider that at that particular point in time," he said.
Asked whether he would drop out if the race became too tough, Cain said: "I'll make that decision depending upon the circumstances and how it is impacting my wife and my family. That's my number one concern by all of these accusations."
SLIDESHOW: Herman Cain
***UPDATE*** Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon tells NBC News: "It's a reassessment of where we stand and the road ahead, similar to other times in the campaign's history. We're looking forward to getting back on message tonight with the Foreign Policy and National Security speech at Hillsdale College in Michigan."

  1. Sorry, Herman Cain is a moron. He won't admit he's done until he realises he's nada in the polls.

  2. It's not even 2012 yet and the GOPinheads have already burned through about, what, five candidates?

There was speculation that the candidate who might benefit most from this is Newt Gingrich. Not that a philanderer like Newt would stoop to engineering something like this.

Hey! Don't blame me if this guy shoots himself in the foot, politically speaking, with his own 'bits'.

Shame on you for sticking up for a sexual harasser.

And 'well spoken'? You've got to be kidding. He's shown himself to be an idiot. He's not the hot shot CEO that he represented himself to be either.

He's all hat and no cattle, as they say in Texas......where Rick Perry's blown his own campaign to hell as well.

  5. Thank you. Now we do not have to hear about the virtues of his 999 tax plan. We will no longer hear about his sexual harassment of women, or whatever else his subconscious is up to, while he is sleeping.

Yes he might be well spoken, if you call quoting a Pokemon theme song as being well spoken, African American conservative. We will not have to hear from him for another four years.

I do not love tearing down anyone, but seriously the guy has some serious issues, and he needs to resolve them. Also Anon, there are a lot of hard working people in this country, as well as others, but that does not mean that they are entitled or qualified to run for a position of leadership.

  7. Cain is probably hard-working, but well-spoken? I don't think so.

He sounds like a morally corrupt womanizing man of mediocre to low intelligence. Definitely not presidential material. But considering the GOP competition, I wouldn't quit yet if I were him.

dog gone sounding like me? Not fucking likely.

She's polite to most people, most of the time. I'm polite to people who don't try to bullshit me or bully me or others into accepting their idiotic talking points as valid arguments.

Herman Cain is apparently a serial philanderer. He deserves at LEAST the amount of scorn that he's getting from rational thinkers. Like far too many republicans, he makes an issue of his having "conservative values" when nothing seems to support his doing so.

If he were a Democrat he could have been JFK or Bill Clinton - two of the best presidents ever.

There is nothing about Herman Cain that remotely resembles the qualifications for president that made either JFK or Clinton great presidents - which I agree they were.

Both Clinton and JFK were extremely knowledgeable about foreign affairs; both had lived overseas. Both Clinton and JFK were inveterate readers; Cain repudiates reading with his 'we need a leader not a reader' crap. You would never see the kind of ignorance from either Clinton or JFK OR Obama for that matter that you routinely see from Cain on EVERY topic, be it economic policy, science, human sexuality (his bullshit about homosexuality being a choice for example), ad infinitum. I can't think of a single topic on which Cain has demonstrated competence, never mind mastery.

Serial infidelity did not make either of the two Presidents great; rather it reflected personal, private shortcomings. Neither of those two men made running on family values a premise of their nomination for the presidential race either -- and that is what makes it fair game for Herman Cain criticism. The man is a serial LIAR as well as a serial philanderer.

That observation btw has nothing to do with his being black; I feel the same way about Perry being a factually challenged ignoramus on all topics on which he as spoken.

  12. I would also point out that Herman Cain is an associate minister of a church in Atlanta, who has performed weddings.

I don't know about you, but that smacks tome of hypocrisy - officiating at other people's weddings - this one cited below was in 2007 - while having an affair where you are cheating on your wife?

Yeah, just how damn sincerely spiritual was THAT?

    http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/11/19/the-gospel-according-to-herman-cain/

I can't quickly find the reference, but wasn't it Herman Cain in the first candidates debate who said he wouldn't have anything to apologize for in the upcoming campaign?

So far he has had quite a lot to apologize for, just not the grace to do so.

He is not remotely presidential material, particularly since his much touted single credential for the job, being a successful CEO turns out to be bullshit as well. He was not a hot shot CEO at godfather's or any other job he's had. Rather the opposite.

In contrast, both Clinton and JFK had notable successes that were real successes.

And you right wingnuts will support any jackass so long as he panders to your ideology, facts be damned.

The only factually accurate words in that sentence from anonymous were conservative, and black man.

  14. "The man is a serial LIAR as well as a serial philanderer."

I don't remember if JKF was ever asked about his infidelities, but I do know that Clinton lied over and over about his.

Anyway, name a politician that isn't a serial liar.

Sure Cain probably is grossly unqualified to be president, but I doubt he would be any worse than Obama has been. At this point I would vote for a paper bag to replace Obama.

Of course if the Republicans end up winning control of the Senate, I don't want to see a Republican president either. Things go badly when one party controls both houses of Congress and the Presidency. They tend to start throwing money around in an attempt to stay in power.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Obama's qualifications are far far better than Cain's. He has better education, he knows both domestic and foreign policy issues in depth, he has a better grasp of economics, he is well regarded internationally - unlike Bush or any of the other recent Republican presidents.

A case in point would be his visit speaking extemporaneously to the meeting of the conservative members of Congress retreat in February 2009

    http://swampland.time.com/2010/01/29/re-great-political-television/

Not one of the current crop of candidates has demonstrated a similar mastery of the material, nor Obama's natural eloquence of speech, which is clearly in this video NOT a matter of reading a teleprompter.

Is Obama perfect? Far from it. Is he a better president than any of the alternatives from either party? Definitely, and by a large margin.

There are many things I wish Obama would do, or would do differently. I'd love to see every person held in Gitmo moved to the U.S. and tried in a federal court. The Guantanamo tribunals are a terrible failure.

I wish he had ended the damned Bush tax cuts for the wealthy sooner. There are lots of things I wish he would do.

But he is so very much better than the right wing ignorant ideology-driven fact averse extremists currently running for the opposition ticket as to make all of them bad political jokes.

I would bet that the Republicans loose their majority in Congress, given their approval ratings are so much lower than the Democrats- not that the Dems ratings are great either.

I doubt that there is a chance in hell of the Republicans gaining the Senate after the crappy job they've done in Congress. And there isn't so far a candidate who can give Obama a serious run from the right either.

Look for a 2008 redux. There is an awful lot of buyer's remorse for those republican elections of last year. I suggest you take a long look at the polls on the topic, particularly governors, but also members of congress.

And then take a long look at the recall petitions; it was on our local news just yesterday that after a little over a week, the people in Wisconsin are nearly half way to the total signatures they need to recall Walker. No one in their wildest dreams expected the number to go that high that fast.

I wouldn't be surprised if the total number of valid signatures needed was exceeded, and that they'd be in hand even before Christmas rolls around.

The last poll I saw showed Walker - one of the gubernatorial poster boys for Republican positions - had close to 60% of the electorate who wanted him gone, and gone NOW. Probably the smartest thing Walker could do would be to resign before he is thrown out of office, along with his lt. governor, who is also being recalled.

Right wing politics have failed, they've failed BADLY. They're not going to change that until those policies change.

That isn't going to happen any time soon. I'm betting the 99%ers have a bigger role to play in the 2012 election than anyone else is currently predicting... and it won't be good for the tea party candidates or the other republicans.

    Obama without his teleprompter.

    Want more examples?

    ReplyDelete
  18. So, Jim, you found a video, one that doesn't cover the entire event, but only part of it taken out of the larger context, when Obama admits he has had very little sleep in the preceding 48 hours.

    So what?

What excuses do the 2012 GOP candidates, Herman Cain in particular, have for every single one of their debate failures? They're not working, they're not in office - certainly Bachmann is never in DC, and other than a brief visit to Minneapolis to hype her book to a minimal turnout, she sure as hell isn't in MN --- Perry isn't spending an appreciable amount of time in Texas either, doing his governor thing.

So what is THEIR excuse, over and over?

Obama makes a sound point - emergency rooms cost more than regular clinic care and is a poor use of health care resources. There are plenty of instances of his speaking well without a teleprompter.

Biden makes far more gaffes; I'm sure you can find examples - but he's still smarter than either Palin or Bachmann, and any of the 2012 GOP candidates.

The members of the GOP's own party tends to rate 'none of the above' and 'other' higher than these candidates. You don't have a strong conservative to go up against Obama.

None of them appear to be even minimally qualified who are anywhere on the polls.

The reason? Simple, the right is requiring an utterly stupid purity test of ideology over substance from the people on your side of the aisle.

Where did that come from? I think the Tea party is squarely responsible, if not the o0nly people responsible. The nut job fundies anti-science group share in that as an overlapping group. The ones who believe that people were riding on dinosaurs like the Flintstones cartoons only a few thousand years ago.

Really, two of the best presidents ever. You voted for Clinton, twice? You voted against Reagan, Bush, Bush II? Because I did. I voted against all of the people who I perceived as being harmful by intent or by inattention to the best interests of my country. Bill Clinton was hounded from the time he was PotUS elect until, well, now.

Bush the elder, Bush jr. and Reagan were all involved in illegal wars, gun running, trading hostages and other high crimes and misdemeanors--for which they have been pretty much left alone.

I know a blowjob or a hundred blowjobs is much more serious than thousands of dead U.S. soldiers and unknown/unknowable thousands of Iraqi and Afghani civilians so I guess we just gotta look at that side of things and forget the malfeasance, duplicity and defacto treason that ocurred from 1980-1988 and 200-2008.

Here's the problem. Herman Cain is a bumbling fool, an incompetent and--it's becoming increasingly apparent--a liar and serial philanderer. I'll take Slick Willie, FDR and Obama over any of the Bush-Reagan troika.

    Jim:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omHUsRTYFAU

Really? You really want to talk about Mr. Obama's lack of public speaking skills, absent a teleprompter? EVERY U.S. President since Eisenhower has used a teleprompter--most of them extensively--while delivering speeches. You do not, and I mean this quite seriously, want to put up any of the current crop of GOPinhead clowndidates against the president in a genuine debate--with or without written notes in front of them.

Well in a few months we will indeed get to see these debates... and a few months after that we will have the elections and we won't have to wonder anymore who will win and who will lose.

  22. Jim:

They aren't debates, anyway; they're paid political ads.

The questions are canned as are the responses. Two things result; shitty television and an even less clear picture of who the candicates are.

Tell me, if you have any idea what it is, that Cain, Romney, Perry, Bachmann or any of the other clowndidates have actually done or said that makes them suitable applicants for the job they aspire to, PotUS? They are, variously, egomaniacs, conmen, liars and grifters--with considerable overlap.

You want a daddy (or a mommy) to make things better. I want a competent chief executive. Nobody in the running for the GOP's nomination shows me that they are a competent executive--including Romney.
