A Million Rugers in One Year

This is quite a heartwarming, let's-work-together appeal, don't you think? Isn't Ruger known as a crap gun, though? I think I read that somewhere.

In any case, this sure ties the gun manufacturers to the NRA. No wonder they're all singing the same tune.

  1. Interesting--perhaps when Uncle Sam sends me back my money, I'll look into a Ruger. I have two already, and both are quality firearms, and I'm not alone in that assessment. I don't know why you call them crap guns. Of course, Bill Ruger did involve himself in the background work for part of the Assault Weapons Ban, namely the restriction on magazines of ten rounds or fewer, but he also designed a number of beautiful weapons and helped to bring back the Colt Single Action Army design, so we can't be too angry with him.

  2. Greg, let me guess. One's a 10/22?

  3. Nope, I have a Super Blackhawk in .44 Magnum. Some moron butchered the thing to put a scope mount on it, so I got a deal. I'm thinking of getting a strip of rosewood to put on the top strap. It would match the grips and cover up the drilling. I also have a 22/45 target pistol. That thing's a beast to clean, but oh, lordy, does it shoot beautifully.

My .22 rifle is a Marlin 60 that I picked up at an evil gun show--no papers!

I think that Ruger has a reputation for making quality firearms, these days. Not sure if that was always the case.

So, everything is conditional then. It would be okay to be hatin' on him if he hadn't done some things you like.

  5. Democommie,

He seems to have supported the AWB foolishness originally because his competitors made weapons that would be restricted, while his company didn't.

But I've been willing to forgive people their sins, in light of their overall achievements.

  6. Greg, That's nice that you're so forgiving, but wasn't it a terribly shabby and disloyal thing to do, supporting the AWB for the reasons you mentioned?

And isn't this donation bullshit the same thing?

To me he sounds like a mercenary businessman with no scruples.

  7. Bill Ruger is dead. Just like the Founders who were named in an earlier article, he wasn't perfect, but he did some good work.

As for the current Ruger program, as Winston Churchill once said, "If Hitler invaded Hell, I would make at least a favorable reference to the Devil in the House of Commons." Except that the company in question isn't really so bad as the Devil. Let's call this reparations.
