Just One Vote Can Make All the Difference

The Daily Caller reports on what I've been saying all along.

When Americans flock to the polls in 13 months, we will not simply decide which direction our country should take over the next four years. Rather, we will decide whether or not our fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms will survive over the next several decades.

Currently, the Second Amendment clings to a 5-4 pro-freedom majority on the Supreme Court. Just one vote is all that stands between the America our Founding Fathers established and a radically different America that Barack Obama and his supporters envision.

"Just one vote," did you get that? That's all that stands in the way of god-given and basic human and inalienable.

Of course, the true gun-rights believer has already decided it doesn't matter what the Supreme Court says, unless it agrees with him. But the difference will be great. In spite of the opposition of many gun owners, if and when the Supreme Court can be changed by that one vote, common sense legislation may be possible which hitherto has not. This may in turn lead to the kind of improvement which will convince many middle-of-the-road folks. A Golden Age of Gun Control awaits.

When you think about it, how hard would it be to eliminate straw purchasing and private sales without background checks? How hard would it be to educate gun owners to lock up their weapons in the home? How hard would it be to screen better for mental illness?

Not very, and I believe like Instapundit, it's coming next term.

What's your opinion? Please leave a comment.

  1. Gun rights?

    Or the Economy?

What's the use is having a house if you don't have a gun you can use to protect it?

You can always rob people (or banks) if you have a gun.

But just remember what happened when Bonnie and Clyde tried robbing that one bank!

  2. Fortunately, most states are also on our side, as is a good portion of Congress. This is the advantage of using multiple approaches to getting what we want.

  3. It does not make a rats ass bit of difference who runs or who is elected in America...the same conservative scumbags make the decisions, set the agenda and reap the rewards. Welcome to third world America.

  4. I have a problem with people who can't go out among their fellow human beings without a deadly weapon.

  5. Only men with very small penises need to carry guns to make themselves feel potent/important/validated. Sad.

  6. PlacitasRoy,

    Huh?

    NancyWH,

Why? Are we harming you? It's not a question of our ability to leave our houses unarmed; it's the fact that we have a choice to do so or not that matters to us.

  7. Gadfly,

Would you care to put some numbers to your assertion? How about some evidence? You're making a blanket statement of fact without support.

  8. Nancy's right Greg. You (collectively) do harm us. You make us and yourself less safe. Your (plural) fear- and insecurity-based decision endangers all of us.
