Amanda Collins Testifying in Colorado

  1. Senator Hubak's response to Ms. Collins shows that Senator Hubak is a monster: the Senator tells Ms. Collins that she and other women have no business carrying a handgun for personal protection from rapists or other attackers because rapists are incredibly successful.

Of course rapists are successful. Rapists have the advantage of size, strength, surprise, and a weapon. But that does not justify restricting the tools that a woman can use to defend herself from a rapist with so many advantages.

I found the Senator's statement about female murder victims particularly obscene. There is nothing compelling about the fact that criminals who used guns to murder women killed vastly more women that women who used guns to kill their attackers. Why? because 100% of the men who attacked had guns and almost all of the women who were victims of those attacks were did not have guns.

The Senator's statistic is like claiming that CPR only saved 1 out of 83 people who had no pulse for 20 minutes ... and administering CPR incorrectly could kill a patient so we should therefore make CPR illegal.

    1. Arming themselves is the last thing women need to do to avoid being raped. Stranger rape is rare and what the senator said is exactly right. A gun will rarely make the difference. But by arming more and more people, we have all the other negative aspects of gun ownership, not the least of which is the possibility of shooting the wrong person because he looked at her funny.

    2. You say that women are too stupid to be trusted with a gun because they won't be able to properly judge if they're about to be raped.

But we, who teach the women in our lives how to defend themselves and make sure they have to means to pepper spray, taze, or even shoot rapists, are the Misogynists.

    3. No, what I say is the chances of using a gun to save the day are lower than the chances that the gun will be misused in some way. Often the misuse of a gun is extremely devastating. This is not limited to women worried about rape, it also applies to you macho men who are afraid to leave the house without a weapon.

    4. So you say, Mikeb, but the most conservative of good estimates of defensive gun uses is still a higher number than the total number of deaths and injuries from firearms in a given year.

    5. Since when do we limit it to deaths and injuries. You yourself support killing people for taking your property, let alone for trying to stick you up with a gun.

Gun crime far outpaces DGUs unless you believe those million-plus estimates.

  2. Here you go. Now you were critical of this young woman in the past, but here she is, telling that old fat white woman (strange how variable your prejudice is) that gun control is wrong.

But since you love feelings so much, let's balance the slight degree of discomfort that some faculty and fellow students might have against the definite pain of rape.

I note that you made no comment about the video. Could it be that your side has no answer?

    1. Of course we have an answer. The reason guns are banned from schools is because they would interfere with the open dialogue and relationships between teacher and student. The justification for needing them is bogus, as the senator pointed out. Guns do more harm than good, exceptions notwithstanding.

    2. Do you seriously believe that I would shoot a student for not putting a comma in the right place or that a student would shoot me because of my interpretation of Robert Frost's poetry? If that's what you believe, you have one wildly distorted view of humanity. And you call me paranoid....

    3. No, not you, but many students and teachers are intimidated by guns. Do you deny that, or is your attitude just fuck them that's their problem?

    4. So, Concealed carry of weapons, where the weapon is never seen, is a problem because the nebulous possibility that someone in the room might have a gun will scare those darlings too much?

Well, then we should sexually segregate classes because all the men have penises and the women might be afraid that one of the men might be a rapist.

Racial segregation would also help the free exchange of ideas as some people who fear blacks wouldn't have to be distracted that one of the black people in the classroom might beat them up.

      Etc. Etc. Etc.

If the fact that a person MIGHT have a gun that you don't see is that disturbing to you, not because you fear that they'll use it, but because you're afraid of the thing being there in the first place, then you need to harden the fuck up.

    5. Concealed means concealed. They're free to remain blissfully ignorant. Beyond that, it is none of my concern what intimidates you, so long as I'm following the law and doing my job.

    6. Please. I've met people who are truly intimidated by free speech, freedom of the press and peaceable assembly to name just a few rights. That's not sufficient cause to limit them.

  3. State Senator Evie Hudak (D) Colorado's pro rapist candidate..... way to go Evie we need more pro criminal, anti concealed carry senators.....

You morons know that Colorado has allowed licensed concealed carry on college campuses for nearly a decade, with no ill effects, a drop in both overall crime rates generally and sexual assault rates specifically after carry on campus was permitted, and no permitted student ever causing a disruption with a firearm on campus.

Way to go Evie you are a real genius...
