Vice President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that the Obama administration would continue to press for an assault weapons ban as part of gun control legislation despite a serious setback on the issue earlier this week.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid acknowledged on Tuesday that there was not enough support for the ban in the Senate, meaning it would fail when gun control legislation comes to the floor of the chamber next month.

Biden, who has led President Barack Obama's push for tighter gun regulations, said he was undeterred.

"We are still pushing that it pass," Biden told NPR in an interview, according to its website.

"I believe that the vast majority of the American people agree with us, the vast majority of gun owners agree with us, that military-style assault weapons are — these are weapons of war. They don't belong in the street," he said.
Wstch out. Maybe they're gonna pull one of those "Lincoln" things and surprise everybody.

  1. Watching you people fail is one of the greatest pleasures politics has to offer.

  2. You mean how Lincoln goaded the South into a Civil War and bragged in a letter that the plan had worked?

Maybe the part where he suspended Habeas Corpus and detained political opponents on Army bases in defiance of the Supreme Court?

Or how Lincoln mandated various policies by executive order even though he didn't have the authority to do so?

  3. Well, we told you how stupid NY's new "assault weapon and assault magazine" law was before it was passed, both because of stupid provisions and because it was being rammed through faster than it could have the bugs worked out. But you cheered them on as they passed the most stringent law yet.

Now, they're having to modify it to fix its problems.

First, the fact that Cuomo is just now realizing that there aren't 7 round magazines available for most guns shows that he drafted without knowing the topic. Now, he shows that he's redrafting without knowing the topic as he says that there are NO 7 round magazines--there are some.

But don't worry, it's going to keep the prohibition on loading more than 7 rounds into the magazine unless you're in a shooting competition or on a range. So corrupt cops can still toss a round in a magazine if they want to make an arrest, and you can get a felony conviction if someone miscounts what they load in their magazine.

Still no word on whether they're going to fix it to exempt cops, or if they'll just continue ignoring that the cops are violating the law (like backwards EoTech man with his 30 round Magazine) while they continue the criminal cases against citizens who still have their 10+ round magazines.

Hooray for badly drafted, hastily passed laws and selective enforcement. NY is well on its way to banana republicdom.

  4. Why not put it to a vote and let the Democrats in the Senate show their constituents where they stand. If I were a Republican I would be pushing for floor votes on these measures as often as possible. Lets see how many Senators and Congressional members want anti 2nd Amendment votes on their records heading into the 2014 elections. And if the people of America really do support as AWB, then the Democrats should want the floor votes as well. That way they can retake the House when all of the Republicans vote the proposals down. I don't understand why this isn't done more often on other issues as well. Just like the Republicans called for a Senate vote on Obama's budget and not one Senator (Democrat or Republican) voted for it.
