Huffington Post reports
Wearing a T-shirt with "killer" scrawled across it, a teenager cursed and gestured obscenely as he was given three life sentences Tuesday for shooting to death three students in an Ohio high school cafeteria. He belongs in a mental hospital not a state prison. Naturally, his granddad didn't even receive a reprimand for leaving his guns available to the disturbed young man.
T.J. Lane, 18, had pleaded guilty last month to shooting at students in February 2012 at Chardon High School, east of Cleveland. Investigators have said he admitted to the shooting but said he didn't know why he did it.
Before the case went to adult court last year, a juvenile court judge ruled that Lane was mentally competent to stand trial despite evidence he suffers from hallucinations, psychosis and fantasies.

He's the one responsible for his actions, not his grandfather. You're a disgusting human being for trying to transfer guilt to an innocent party.
ReplyDeleteAnd no, he belongs on death row, not a mental hospital.
I agree with this comment. He belonged in a mental hospital before he decided to take the lives of 3 other human beings, not as result.
DeleteA closer look needs to be taken to the environment and conditions that bred this personality to prevent a recurrence. These articles only superficially examine the circumstances in which the events occurred.
But granddaddy was perfectly in the right to leave guns out and accessible to this kid? Is that what you're saying?
Deletehe belongs in an unlit abandoned mine. with food sent in through a pipe.
ReplyDeleteNo, he doesn't. He is not a sub-human monster but a previously well thought of young person who, for whatever reason, went terribly wrong. We need to find out what is going on with our kids today as terrible crimes like school shootings are on the increase without a doubt. I suspect it begins with breakdown of the traditional supportive family unit. It is also not unreasonable to question the ready access of weapons by vulnerable people who may misuse them, as in this case.
