CBS Atlanta 46
The victim's family's reaction reminds me of those revenge seeking death penalty proponents. And my reaction is the same, vengeance should have no place in the administration of justice.
Probation and a serious felony conviction is perfectly right for an accidental shooting death.
I just hope Georgia is one of those states that considers juvenile records when issuing adult background checks and concealed carry permits.

One problem that I have is I don't know hold old the teen shooter is, but the stated age for the victim was 13 at the time.
ReplyDeleteThat said, IF the shooter was 15 or less, his juvenile records can be sealed and/or expunged at 21. So no record may not show up should he ever apply for a carry license or weapons purchase. 16 or older could be a different story.
Another thing is this, supervision while a gun was out?
And there is this, justice IS revenge pure and simple. It is a revenge that matches the crime. Not just wanton revenge of any kind but that accepted by society. You do something wrong, you get punished, revenge. Live with it.
Accidental, or purposely and with malice and forethought makes a difference in the justice/revenge exacted on the actor of a crime.
I am not one to toy with about guns. Their use and supervision of under aged individuals, or older inexperienced for that matter, is a big deal with me. You should know that about me already Mike. However, intentions make a big difference as well.
A little more (rather a LOT more) information is needed besides the opinions of a news company and family members is needed for me to make an opinion on this matter.
