    1. That brings up an interesting point. Why aren't the pro-gun whiny babies NOT talking about machine guns? Isn't that an infringement of their rights?

      Delete
    2. What do you mean? You've never heard anyone talking about wanting to repeal the Hughes amendment or the NFA? Have you not been paying attention?

      Delete
    3. No, I haven't heard that. I'm sure it's out there, but it's certainly not in the main stream of the pro-gun nonsense that we read every day.

    4. Mikeb, if you really knew anything about guns, you'd see that the heavy restrictions on full-auto weapons is silly.

  2. This is an example of how we need to be careful about quotations without sources. Remember the one with Lincoln talking about the Internet? But even if Reagan did say that, who cares?

    1. The Republicans care, and since most of you gun nuts are Republicans, I decided to post it here.

    2. Are you saying Reagan never said this?

    3. no response from the lying coward

  3. So specifically the fully automatic version.

  4. It seems quite clear by his words that he is referring to selective fire weapons.

  5. He did say that, check it.

    1. Of course he did. If you go back far enough, La Pierre and the other NRA spokesmen said reasonable things too. These guys get worse over time, never better.

    2. Just the site liar trying to deny the truth again.

  6. Just wanted to flesh this quote out a bit and admit I'm wrong on my previous comment. The quote itself is real and correct, taking place at his 78th birthday celebration just after he left office.
He made the quote in response to the school shooting in Stockton California where Patrick Purdy used a semi-automatic version of an AK-47 to commit mass murder. So in this case, then former President Reagan used incorrect terminology in his speech but was clearly referring to the firearm used by Purdy.
I would invite everyone to check out my cite to get a better idea of the context of the quote than I can give.

    1. Incorrectly calling semi-auto guns automatic is common. How many movie scripts have the term "a 45 automatic" in them? Some of you guys like to call it a conspiracy on our part to make things sound worse than they really are, but it's obviously just ignorance.

      Delete
    2. Well, .45ACP stands for "Automatic Colt Pistol". This is terminology for the cartridge- not the gun, and refers to the cartridge as being designed for self-loading. It's up to the mechanics of the gun whether or not an automatically loaded round automatically fires or waits for another trigger pull. Complicating this is that guns are often referred to by the cartridge they shoot. In short, when "auto" is used in the context of ammunition, it means self-loading.

      Delete
    3. Actually in the case of the 45 automatic, its actually somewhat the correct terminology. First, the correct name for the ammunition is "45 auto", ".45 auto", or .45 ACP (automatic colt pistol).

"The .45 ACP (11.43×23mm) (Automatic Colt Pistol), also known as the .45 Auto by C.I.P. or 45 Auto by SAAMI, is a cartridge designed by John Browning in 1904, for use in his prototype Colt semi-automatic .45 pistol and eventually the M1911 pistol adopted by the United States Army in 1911."
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.45_ACP

And the manufacturer actually adopted it in its advertising,
      http://www.coltautos.com/1905ci_advertisements.htm

The official designation of the pistol by the military was,

"Its formal designation as of 1940 was Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911 for the original Model of 1911 or Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911A1 for the M1911A1, adopted in 1924."

    4. If you want to ban something, you at least should have the courtesy to know what you're talking about.

      Delete
    5. When the .45 A.C.P. was invented, people were a lot more knowledgeable about guns and could be relied on to understand that it didn't mean a machine gun or a submachine gun.

      Delete
    6. That's all very interesting about the ammo, but my point remains. When Sylvester Stallone refers to his handgun as an automatic, it's simple ignorance on the part of the script writers. It's not some technically correct reference to the ammo.

Same goes for many newscasters and even the venerable Ronald Reagan.

      Delete
    7. Reagan probably said that out of ignorance. Of course we know that the gun control side was leading a campaign of ignorance trying to get people to think of machine guns and it appears to have worked on him.

      Delete
    8. Nice to know you confirm Reagan was an ignorant person.

      Delete
    9. Automatic used to be the standard term for what today is called semiautomatic or self-loading. I like the older term. But it gets confused by gun control freaks today.

      Delete
    10. Greg and TS think it's all a conspiracy on the part of the gun control folks. Typical paranoia and victimism.

      Delete
    11. Mikeb, that's a false statement.

    12. SS already admitted he lied. What else is necessary?

      Delete
    13. Anon, perhaps you should consider adding a word to your vocabulary. The word wrong. I admitted I was wrong because after further study I found out I was and said so. Being wrong is a bit different than lying.

    14. Anonymous, I've told you before you should lighten up on ssgmakrcr. By attacking him with the same violence with which you attack Greg, you lose credibility. Choose you battles, man.

Anon, you left a President out of your list of proven liars.......

    2. Right, lying about a blow job (an act that truly hurt no one, it was between consenting adults) is equal to a lie that killed thousands of American soldiers and 10's of thousands of innocent civilians. You truely are a lying coward, and should not be wearing a uniform.

    3. So, Anonymous, you accept lies that are made on your side?

    4. ss, I have to say that attacking Clinton for that stupid business is pretty pathetic. Interestingly, it's pretty much the company line and like a good loyal follower, you're a-singin' it..

    5. " I have to say that attacking Clinton for that stupid business is pretty pathetic."

Mike, I have high expectations of my leaders since I swore an oath to follow their lawful orders. And any President is my Commander in Chief. So I have similar expectations of them also.

    6. Interesting to note these criminal lying cowards equate a blow job with 10's of thousands of deaths.
I expect nothing less from lying cowards

Anon, I think you might have your Presidents mixed up. At what point did Reagan's lies kill thousands of American soldiers? Or tens of thousands of civilians?

    8. Did I say Reagan?
You are a disgusting liar and coward who should not be wearing a uniform. And to stupid to have an honest discussion.
      Next lie.

    9. Much of the world considers Bush, Cheney, Rummy, and others war criminals, and would be arrested if they set foot in many countries. Clinton does not have that distinction, probably because they understand the difference between a minor crime and a major crime. Like misdemeanor and a felon. You have proven you don't understand that concept.
Thanks for the bullshit twisting lies and keeping your reputation as a cowardly lying criminal.

      Delete
    10. Anonymous makes a good point. I knew he was referring to Bush not Reagan. The obvious and huge difference between Clinton's lie and Bush's is such that to even complain about Clinton's is ridiculous.

      Delete
    11. Unless I am to consider that SS is the dumbest idiot in the world, he lied. Take you choice, same ridiculous result.

  9. "Right, lying about a blow job (an act that truly hurt no one, it was between consenting adults) is equal to a lie that killed thousands of American soldiers and 10's of thousands of innocent civilians."

"In a lame-duck session of Congress after the 1998 elections, the House voted to impeach Clinton, based on alleged acts of perjury and obstruction of justice related to the Lewinsky scandal."
The obstruction charge was based on his actions to conceal his relationship with Lewinsky before and after that deposition.
Senate finished a twenty-one-day trial on February 12, 1999, with the vote of 55 Not Guilty/45 Guilty on the perjury charge[107] and 50 Not Guilty/50 Guilty on the obstruction of justice charge."

"McKinney was acquitted of all sexual harassment charges, but was convicted of obstruction of justice, and received a reduction in grade to master sergeant and a reprimand."
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_C._McKinney

So we have the President and the senior sergeant of the army are both charged with similar offences. One was removed from his position and then prosecuted and convicted, then punished.
The other was acquitted by what amounted to political jury nullification. Especially since he then began to tap dance about what having sexual relations means. He kept his job, and eventually admitted to other indiscretions.
The Army's philosophy is that if you're willing to lie about little things, then you'll be more likely to when the important stuff comes up. In fact, in one of the schools I attended, a student in the class ahead of me was found to have falsified the results of his physical fitness test by one sit-up. He was dismissed the day before his graduation from an 18 month long school.

So the question is, if he's willing to lie about a blow job, what else would he be willing to lie about.

    1. Thanks for clearing that up; you are saying all lies and the resulting consequences, are the same. I didn't know we had such idiots as you in uniform. Thanks for proving there are cowards in uniform. What's your take on soldiers lying to cover up murder?

    2. "all lies and the resulting consequences, are the same."

The facts of these two cases are well documented. One was removed from his position of authority and then tried and convicted, the other wasn't. How are the consequences the same?

    3. What a twisting word coward soldier. You are the one who claims the offense is the same.

    4. Lets see,

McKinney charged and convicted of obstruction of justice and Clinton charged with perjury and obstruction of justice.
You're right and I'm wrong, Clinton was the more serious lawbreaker who benefitted from jury nullification and McKinney was convicted. The benefit seems to be having friends on the jury. Can you imagine what would have happened if the same thing had happened to McKinney?

    6. I don't know if the McKinney case was really similar to the Clinton one. If it was then he go shafted. Consensual sex between adults should not be thrust into the public eye. Whenever it is there are usually political motives behind it.
