A Johnston father of two young daughters is joining with gun-rights advocates in seeking a change to an Iowa law that makes it illegal for children young than 14 to fire handguns.
"Those seeking to change the law say shooting ranges have enforced it more closely since Altoona Democratic Sen. Joe Riding sought to lower the age limit from 14 to 12."
While I'd prefer the decision be left to parents as to when they will allow their children to engage in recreational shooting under supervision, I think its commendable that this Democratic State Senator is attempting to pass common sense gun laws.
This kind of law would not even be considered if gun craziness had not gotten out of control. Just proof that extremism has taken over. Gun loons want to arm all our school kids and then there is this. I doubt this will pass in Iowa, but watch other States bring up a same proposal.
Iowa is gun friendly, as are most states. Bans on allowing parents to guide their children in the proper usage of guns are silly and should be overturned.
Having a position that every child in school should be armed is even more silly (dangerous) but your "side" has stated publicly that's what would make them safer. The dumbest idea ever from your "side."
Pro gun people (your side) proposed it after the last mass shooting and killing at a school and (NRA) Wayne said it was a good idea. So you are wrong again, no surprise.
I agree, Mikeb: It's child abuse not to allow children to shoot while being supervised by their parents.

DeleteWhat are you talking about?
DeleteSeriously, Anonymous? How Quixotic are you going to get?
DeleteHave fun tilting at that windmill. Congratulations on your victory over an idea nobody is proposing.

DeleteWayne LaPierre and the NRA never proposed arming School Children. Such an obvious lie anonymous. Sad that you must resort to this.
