Gun rights page taken down

Remember? The one I mentioned in this post with this picture:

Sure, you want to say this is a fake, but it was yanked by the owner:

He blamed it on "anti-gunners".

I guess there aren't any responsible gun owners out there.

Does this mean that if we don't like who won the election--we can kill them?

Seriously, from a "gun rights" asshole's page:
https://www.facebook.com/WeLikeGunRights/photos/a.148177891997744.34524.148177061997827/404511309697733/?type=1&permPage=1

Alas, the link is broken, but

This is something from the page's owner that verifies this is his opinion.
Anyone who believes this shit knows nothing about the US Constitution or its history.  The founders could have just said "fuck it" and not bothered with drafting a constitution if they felt this way.  The US would be even more of a piddly insignificant country than it is already.  It would be in there with the rest of the Central and Southern American countries if they wanted to see this.

In fact, given that the French Revolution was going on at about the same time the US Constitution was being drafted, they could have gone full out crazzzeeeee!
"We are ze Republique, not ze Democracee!"
But, they didn't.

Now, why don't you people get your shit together?

Where's Ruffy?

If I were going to think of an internet identity which would show bad taste and general ignorance for a pro-gunner, I could come up with some obvious ones relating to Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, JFK, or Reagan.

Using Teddy Roosevelt comes in there as well (and ties into McKinley). In fact, Roosevelt might be a better (worse?) choice for someone who is advocating "pro-gun" policies.

First off, TR became President due to McKinley's assassination in 1901

Secondly, TR survived an assassination attempt on 14 October 1912 when:
John F. Schrank, a saloon-keeper from New York, shot Roosevelt once with a .38 caliber revolver. A 50-page speech folded over twice in Roosevelt's breast pocket and a metal glasses case slowed the bullet. Amidst the commotion, Roosevelt yelled out, "Quiet! I've been shot." Roosevelt insisted on giving his speech with the bullet still lodged inside him. During his speech Roosevelt stated, "It takes more than one bullet to bring down a Bull Moose" thus further perpetuating Roosevelt's image as a larger than life President and the nickname of the Progressive Party, the Bull Moose Party established in June 1912 after Roosevelt responded to reporters questioning his health stating, "I am as strong as a Bull Moose". He later went to the hospital, but the bullet was never removed. Roosevelt, remembering that William McKinley died after operations to remove his bullet, chose to have his remain. The bullet remained in his body until his death in 1919. Schrank said that McKinley's ghost had told him to avenge his assassination. Schrank was found legally insane and was institutionalized until his death in 1943.
Fortunately, bullets in the good old days pre-nitro powder weren't as powerful as they are now, or Ruffy would be in seriously bad taste territory, as opposed to just bad taste territory...

And if you don't like "Libruls", don't idolise TR:

Roosevelt attempted to move the Republican Party (GOP) toward Progressivism (AKA Liberalism), including trust busting and increased regulation of businesses. Roosevelt coined the phrase "Square Deal" to describe his domestic agenda, emphasizing that the average citizen would get a fair share under his policies. As an outdoorsman and naturalist, he promoted the conservation movement.

Update on the Ortega Presidential Assassination Attempt

We would all be a lot safer if crazy people did not obtain firearms.  It is ludicrous to have to wait until they do something potentially dangerous before they are prevented from gun access.  Not everyone, clearly, who has a mental health problem is mentally ill or unfit, but we have a chronic problem with people like this getting their hands on guns.

It is unacceptable, it is intolerable.  It has to stop.

From MSNBC.com and the AP:

Accused White House shooter to be held for trial

Man is charged with attempting to assassinate President Barack Obama

updated 12/19/2011 3:51:23 PM ET
A man accused of trying to kill President Barack Obama by firing several shots at the White House from long range must remain in custody to protect the public and the president, a federal judge said Monday.
U.S. Magistrate Judge John Facciola's order that Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez be detained without bond was not unexpected given the seriousness of the charge Ortega faces — attempting to assassinate the president. It followed a two-hour hearing in which Ortega's public defender aggressively questioned an FBI agent about the strength of the government's case and apparent contradictions in witness statements.
Obama and his wife, Michelle, were out of town on the evening of Nov. 11 when authorities say Ortega used an assault rifle with an attached scope to fire up to a dozen shots at the White House from his vehicle. Two bullets and one bullet fragment were recovered from the grounds of executive mansion, including one that was stopped by bulletproof glass. Investigators found five bullet impact points on the south side of the building on or above the second story, where the first family resides.
Friends and associates told investigators that Ortega — a 21-year-old Idaho Falls, Idaho native — has long been obsessed with Obama and referred to the president as the antichrist. Ortega, who has shoulder-length dark hair and a long beard, called himself "the modern-day Jesus Christ" and told at least one person he intended to kill the president, authorities allege.
Ortega's attorney, David Bos, argued that prosecutors had failed to establish that Ortega was present when the shots were fired or that the president was the target of the attack.
"We believe this to be an extraordinarily weak government case," Bos said.
Prosecutors have raised concerns about Ortega's mental state, although an initial psychiatric screening found him competent to stand trial.
"The defendant is a particularly dangerous individual," Facciola said, adding that he could not set any conditions for release that would ensure public safety.
Ortega faces a possible life sentence if convicted, and he would be a flight risk if released, Facciola said.
He noted that Ortega's departure from the Washington area after the shooting was "a remarkable one, on a freight train."
Prosecutors introduced a photo of Ortega's head popping out of an empty rail car that was snapped by a retired FBI photographer who takes pictures of trains as a hobby. The picture was taken three days after the shooting near Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., and the train had originated in Washington. Ortega was arrested on Nov. 16 at a hotel in Indiana, Pa., where he had stayed with friends before the shooting.
Two witnesses told investigators that they heard gunshots or popping sounds and saw a dark-colored sedan on Constitution Avenue south of the White House on the evening of Nov. 11. But neither of them identified Ortega as the shooter, FBI Special Agent Michael Pinto said under cross-examination.
A jogger who flagged down police immediately after the shooting gave "a vastly different version of events," Bos said, telling investigators that the shooting involved two vehicles, including a yellow truck.
Assistant U.S. Attorney John Borchert said the government had substantial evidence linking Ortega to the shooting. He also said there's no evidence to substantiate Ortega's claim to investigators that he was carjacked on the afternoon before the attack.
"It's his car. It's his gun. It's his bullets," Borchert said. "There's a compelling case of identification here."

The Biggest Conspiracy and Coverup of the 20th Century

De Rosa World has been running a fantastic month-long series of posts about the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The latest episode is about the bullets or about the "magic bullet" I should say.

Inasmuch as no complete bullet of any size could be located in the brain area and likewise no bullet could be located in the back or any other area of the body as determined by total body X-Rays and inspection revealing there was no point of exit, the individuals performing the autopsy were at a loss to explain why they could find no bullets.

Lee Harvey Oswald's murder and Jack Ruby's death and the subsequent Warren Report which determined no other shooters where involved besides Oswald, was probably the beginning of my life-long cynicism and distrust of the government. I had always thought these attitudes in me had begun during Viet Nam, but Daisy helped me trace it back to the Kennedy assassination when I was 10 years old.

What's your opinion? Do you think conspiracy theories are the stuff of liberals or conservatives? Or do they perhaps cross over into both camps? Do you agree that the government did a con job on the American people back in the 1960s? How does it compare to the more blatant conning Bush and Cheney did in 2001, associating Saddam Hussein with 9/11?
