Florida 3-Year-old Dead - Charges Possible

Authorities said a 3-year-old Lake Worth girl died Thursday after what appears to be an accidental shooting.

Palm Beach County Sheriff's officials said Zuri Chambers was shot with an unsecured weapon. She and her father were the only two people in the house. Zuri was flown to Delray Medical Center, where she died Thursday night.

A sheriff's spokeswoman said charges are possible because Florida law requires that weapons in homes be kept securely.

A father is facing manslaughter and other charges after his baby was accidentally shot and killed.

Greene County Sheriff Lemmie Smith tells WITN the baby girl was shot Wednesday night around 9 p.m. in a home on Letchworth Drive in Greene County, off of Fort Run Rd.

Smith says the father was holding the rifle on the couch when it accidentally went off, shooting the baby in the chest. The gunshot killed her.

The baby's name has not been released.

Allen Ormond, 28, was originally charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. But the District Attorney's Office told them to also charge him with involuntary manslaughter.

The Greene County man is a convicted felon and is not legally allowed to own a gun. Records show he was convicted in the 2007 of possession of stolen goods in Greene County. Sheriff Smith said Ormond had just bought the rifle earlier Wednesday, hours before the fatal shooting of his baby girl.

Ormond is also charged with possession of a stolen firearm.

Also charged is 28-year-old Kevin Elkins of Kinston. He's charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. He was convicted of larceny in Greene County in 2013. Elkins has also been convicted of multiple DWIs, hit and run, speeding to elude and receiving a stolen vehicle. His conviction record dates back to 2002.

Sheriff Smith says other people were in the house when the baby was fatally shot. He wasn't sure if the baby's mother was there or not.

Kansas Man Goes to Jail for Unintentionally Killing his Friend

A Leavenworth man was sentenced Friday to 38 months in prison for accidentally killing a friend during an early morning swimming trip.

Justin Driscoll, 27, pleaded no contest in November to involuntary manslaughter for shooting Dick Mathis, 30, in the face.

Driscoll told officers that while driving to a park he tried to hand a gun to Mathis, not realizing the gun was loaded. Then gun discharged.

“I didn’t know the clip had been put back in the gun,” Driscoll told investigators, according to the Leavenworth County Attorney’s Office.

Idaho Man Shoots Himself by Accident - No Charges

Eastern Idaho authorities say a man accidentally shot himself Saturday morning outside a Lowe's home improvement in Pocatello.

Authorities tell the Idaho State Journal the man returned to his vehicle after shopping and was placing his handgun into a holster when it fired.

Police say the man sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Portneuf Medical Center for treatment.

Police say the man was in legal possession of the firearm and is the gun's legal owner.

Guys like this should be relieved of the responsibility of gun ownership.  It's obviously too much for this one.

Absolutely disgraceful interpretation by the sheriff. How in the world could anyone think the shooter felt threatened to the point of leaving the house, pursuing the supposedly threatening figure and shooting at him four times in the middle of the night?  The threat was an unarmed and helpless Alzheimer's sufferer. Where exactly was the lethal threat or the threat of serious bodily harm?

I'll tell you where.  It was in the paranoid mind of the gun owner. Like so many gun owners, this guy was totally unfit and incapable of distinguishing between a real and an imagined threat. And what's even worse is the pro-gun-nut Sheriff Wilson supports him in this incident which is nothing short of manslaughter.

North Carolina: 2nd Amendment Advocate Shoots Printer by Accident - Runs Away

Police in Wilkesboro are looking for the man who they say accidentally fired a gun in a store during a discussion on the Second Amendment. 

The incident happened Tuesday evening in the GNC store on Winkler Street. 

Police say the man pulled out his gun to show an employee when he accidentally shot a printer. 

According to the police report, the man told the store employee he "could not go down for this," and left.

How about that action for taking resources away from where they might be needed?  TS feels that we couldn't require psychological screening for gun owners because it wound take the psychological services away from people who really need them.  But, I suppose open carry stunts like this one are OK.

Maine Father an Daughter Injured in Accidental Shooting - No Charges

A man and his young daughter were both injured when the man’s handgun went off this morning in Stonington, police said.

The man, Ryan Matson, 38, was cleaning his .45 caliber handgun when it went off accidentally in his kitchen. He and his daughter, Riley Matson, were both shot in the leg and taken to Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. Police said the injuries were not life threatening.

Matson’s wife and another child were also at home, but were not injured.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said no charges are expected.

Of course not.  Why would any charges be brought? 

Unintentional Homicide in Maine - No Charges - I Was Just an Accident

A Franklin pest control expert working in Maine is under investigation after he accidentally shot and killed a fellow worker.

Michael Warbin, 44, fired a single shot from a .22-caliber rifle that wounded and killed Manuel Adame, 57, on Aug. 19, according to a report from the Portland Press Herald.

The two men were in an egg house at a farm in Turner, Maine, a small town in southern Maine near Lewiston. The farm is owned by Moark LLC., one of the largest producers of eggs in the nation and a subsidiary of Land O’Lakes Inc.

Steve McCausland of the Maine Department of Public Safety said Warbin was shooting the rifle to kill rodents and stray chickens inside one of the farm’s egg houses.

McCausland said Adame collapsed while attempting to leave the barn and died as he was being taken to a Lewiston hospital.

The state medical examiner’s office said Adame died of a gunshot wound to the chest and neck.

Warbin on Tuesday referred all questions to his Portland, Maine, attorney, Jonathan Berry. Berry said Warbin is not and never was under arrest and is free to leave the state. He said he didn’t know whether Warbin had done so.

Maine Deputy Attorney General William Stokes told the Press Herald last week that investigators believe the shooting was unintentional but want to know why Warbin apparently didn’t know Adame was in his field of fire.

They did interview her son, Attila Frank “Sonny” Kerekes, 55.

According to OPD reports, Sonny Kerekes, who moved in with his mother several months ago, told detectives he has owned the gun, a .38 revolver, which was his father’s, since his father died in the early 1980s.

He said he used the revolver to shoot sharks when he was a commercial fisherman in Miami. He said his mother wanted to see the gun, so he was taking it from a bag in which it had been stored. He said she was in the kitchen and he was in another room when the revolver accidentally went off and a bullet went through a wall.

He said he did not know his mother had been wounded until she told him about pain in her abdomen, at which point he called 911.

California Students Hurt In Accidental Shooting By Cop At School Safety Event

Three California elementary school students were wounded in an allegedly accidental shooting with a police weapon at a safety demonstration on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reported.

An officer's gun discharged and no one was hit by an errant bullet, according to the Associated Press. But it unleashed a murky chain of events that left the three youngsters with cuts and scrapes.

Two kids were treated at the hospital while the other child was escorted home by his parents.

The apparent accident occurred around 11:15 a.m in Newman Elementary School, outside Los Angeles, where the Chino police department was participating in Red Ribbon Week events.

Orange County, Texas, Sheriff's Office. Melissa Ann Ringhardt, 19, of Vidor, Texas, was charged with abandoning or endangering a child after 5-year-old John Read shot and killed himself with her gun Monday, authorities said.

A teenage babysitter was arrested Tuesday and charged in the death of a 5-year-old Texas boy who accidentally shot himself with the babysitter's gun while she was napping, authorities said.

Melissa Ann Ringhardt, 19, of Vidor was being held in the Orange County Jail on a felony charge of abandoning or endangering a child, the county sheriff's office said in a statement. She could face a sentence of six months to two years if convicted

The sheriff's office said Ringhardt, who lives with the boy's family, left her semiautomatic .40-caliber handgun on a coffee table when she went into a bedroom to take a nap Monday afternoon. When she woke up, she couldn't immediately find the boy, identified as John Read, according to the sheriff's office. She eventually discovered him dead in the living room, it said.

Because the home has no telephone, Ringhardt carried John and a 6-month-old child, whom she was also watching and who wasn't identified, about a block to his grandparents' home to call 911, the sheriff's office said. John was declared dead there when emergency crews arrived.

Ringhardt told investigators she had the gun because she was frightened of being home alone, the sheriff's office said. 

No phone and no cell phone either? How is that?

This girl is another victim of the gun rights movement. She believed the lie that having a gun is a good way to provide for your safety.  Too often, it's not.

Lawful Reno Nevada Gun Owner Pleads Guilty to Shooting a Golfer who Hit his Home with a Golf Ball

A Nevada man accused of shooting a golfer who broke a window at his home with an errant ball has pleaded guilty to a felony charge.

Jeff Fleming of Reno entered the plea to battery with a deadly weapon on Thursday in Washoe County District Court. He faces from probation to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine when he's sentenced Dec. 12.

The golfer was unable to find his ball and was doing a drop shot on the 16th hole of the Lakeridge Golf Course in September 2012 when Fleming approached and fired a single shot at him with a shotgun, prosecutors said. The golfer was treated for minor injuries to an arm and both legs at a hospital.

Texas 5-Year-old Dead - No Charges

A 5-year-old boy was found killed by a single-shot wound to the head in Vidor at approximately 2:45 p.m. Monday.

According to Chief Deputy Clint Hodgkinson with the Orange County Sheriff's Office, they received a call to the at approximately 2:45 p.m. on a call of an unresponsive child on Scott Drive in North Vidor.

Investigators say the shooting happened in the 1200 block of Roberts Road. The child was being watched by a babysitter at his parent's home when the shooting occurred.

Without access to a phone, the babysitter carried the child through the woods to the grandparent's home on Scott street.

The gun-nut dad probably kept his gun under a pillow and instructed the kid to never touch it when daddy's not home. Or maybe it was in the bedroom nightstand or a closet which would require the little boy to climb on a chair in order to reach the fascinating item.

One thing for sure is the gun was not locked in a safe where it should have been.  But it Texas that doesn't matter.

I'll bet dad had a concealed carry permit too. They're easy to get down Texas way.
