The video shows you why head shots are important, you’ll learn the anatomy of the human brain discussing kill zones and how to analyze the head from straight on and profiles. Then, you’ll see how to shoot to be able to make consistent head shots from realistic self-defense distances. The Head Shot Targets are life-sized, full-color images of human faces designed to help the professional refine his/her accuracy skills. Each target is matched with the Kill Shot Overlay to demonstrate accuracy and to allow the operator to see and document improvement. Get unlimited targets and the video; Head Shot: How and Why when you get the Head Shot Target Training System. We’ll discuss drawing from concealment and shooting with gun in-hand. And, you’ll learn how to use the targets for maximum improvement. The targets are on the enclosed CD. You can print them out any time you like along with the Kill Shot Overlays. The video is on DVD and runs 20 minutes.
Is that sick, or what? I'll admit one thing, at least there's no attempt to disguise what it's all about. It's about killing people.
What's your opinion? Do you think some gun owners themselves would find this a bit shocking? Are there some who want to have a gun but don't really know what they're getting into?
Please leave a comment.
I was wondering if you would mention this video.
ReplyDeleteI think they would be too scared of the blood: especially their own.
Sounds like bullshit snake oil to me. Head shots with a pistol (when adrenalin is flooding your system) are pretty tough against a target who is presumably mobile--and shooting back--which is why I haven't heard of any training system that doesn't say go for center mass.
ReplyDeleteSure--being able to do it can be lifesaving--see David Hernandez Arroyo, but I can't see this "training" DVD providing much assistance in attaining that capability.
Could be wrong--if you buy it, Mikeb, let us know what you think of it.
A gun can be used as a deadly weapon. There is nothing wrong with learning how to use it as a deadly weapon.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the video is a bit misguided. A head shot with a handgun is difficult to effectively use in most self-defense situations and not a guaranteed way to stop a person (remember Jerome Ersland?).
This video seems to be more entertainment than practical training.
with the amount of time and attention you pay to guns, it no wonder you would come across this. Although guns cause more of mess when killing someone, the act of killing someone by strangulation is the most brutal way a human can kill another human. You can feel the person's life you are taking slip through fingers. A gun is so much impersonal. More bloody for sure, bit not more brutal.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what has been already said. Your best bet in a self-defense scenario is to shoot for center-of-mass with quality ammo designed for stopping goblins.
ReplyDeleteThe only training I've ever seen dealing with head shots dealt with a quick double tap to the chest FIRST and then a single head shot.
Using a rifle with FMJ's would be more effective passing thru the noggin, but a mobile target is a mobile target, aim for COM.
I'm sure you all noticed that the company selling the video about "Head Shots" is called Center of Mass.
ReplyDeletePrincipe, Are you talking from personal experience when you say strangulation is the most brutal?
I would think there are any number of ways that would be more brutal. One needs only let the imagination fly, or go to the movies once in a while.
Is that what anti-gunners do all day? I've been wondering because, like with the example of the .50 caliber ban, only the anti-gunners have thought of using them for criminal activities like shooting down aircraft. The antis seem to be big on wanting to control guns because what might happen one day if all of the planets align or something.
ReplyDeleteIf you're carrying a firearm for self-defense, you presumably don't meant to tickle somebody with it if they attack you.
ReplyDeleteBut everyone get trained to shoot center of mass, but that's not to say it's not a good idea to have some clue how to make effective hits on other areas. There are cases where COM hits aren't going to work, such as the attacker wearing body armor. Or if you ever find yourself in a Mexican standoff (these happen all the time, really).
But seriously, I tend to agree that it's a gimmicky video, designed to sell to people who want to imagine they are better trained than they really are. It might be useful to know the anatomical stuff, but the things you want to practice are making hits on small, moving targets... basic IPSC scenarios are going to be more useful to a shooter than a video like this.
FWM, If "all of the planets align or something," we'll probably have a marked increase in meteorite strikes and DGUs.
