Mayor Daley Asks for Stricter Gun Laws

The National Examiner published an interesting piece from the DuPage County Libertarian Examiner.

The Mayor wants more and stricter laws, others feel differently. What I say is time will tell. The way things are going, over the next few years, it'll become clear.

The article contained a remark which made me think.

Libertarians are not all gun nuts. Some of us can't stand guns and never want to use them. But we want the ex-marine on the subway to have one, just in case the creepy guy sitting next to us tries anything.

Does this mean that people are not divided between sheep and sheep dogs? That's one of the over-simplifications I used to hear. Maybe there are some sheep dog sympathizers among the sheep. What do you think?

Please leave a comment.

Sounds like a sheep to me. One that's smarter than the average.

What exactly do you mean by "the way thing's are going"?

  3. You know those fat kids who hang out in malls--the ones dressed all in black, even on 100 degree days? The ones with the pasty white skin and purple streaks in their hair and nose rings and dog collars?

They grow up to be libertarians.

Why haven’t the last few years been clear to you?

  5. What's wrong with the "goth" look, Jade? I know you are against personal choice in self-defence, but clothes too?!

  6. Hmmm, obviously someone forgot to relay me the message, since I grew up to be a Libertarian and am basically the antithesis of Jade's ignorant stereotype.

  7. What I mean by, "the way thing's are going" is this. Gun rights have been expanded greatly over the last year of so and seem about to spring forward with the Miller decision.

When you guys ask, where's all the blood in the streets, the only answer I've had up till now is it's too soon to tell. But I think that will shift and over the next five years or so, many of you gun rights people will be forced to accept what we've been pointing out right along. More guns means more gun violence. Lott's got it wrong, and things will become clearer.

Correlation does not equal causation. There is this little thing called a recession that might have a slight impact on crime rates too. But head in the sand types aren't interested in tackling the root causes of crime.

  9. "Too soon to tell"? The Brady bunch have been talking about "blood in the streets" and "wild west shootouts" since Florida became the "gunshine state" over two decades ago.

The "flowing blood" meme is old, the Bradys are quickly becoming irrelivant and centuries old enumerated rights aren't the source of crime.

  10. You may be right Kevin, in which case in a year or two I'll have to declare myself irrelevant like the Bradys.

The "centuries old enumerated rights" you're talking about, what would those be exactly? Do you really think the original intent was what we have today in an increasing way? Is the Arizona permitless carry law part of that?

  11. I don't think you'll have to declare yourself irrelevant. The Brady's refuse to reassess their views with basic logic and reasoning. Case in point, "Assault weapons", you can see the difference.

Brady Campain with "evil parts" argument:

Note how in the "copycat weapons" section, they defeat their own argument by saying that the "ugly features" are not reguired in order for a rifle to be "evil".

You use logic, Joyce funded anti-rights groups don't.
