Honeybee Killer Dead

The Huffington Post reports on the final chapter of a strange story from October, a case in which they originally arrested the wrong guy.

In October, a disheveled gunman fatally shot a man and wounded two others in rural parts of Illinois and Indiana.
The assailant approached his victims with strange questions, asking one man about honeybees and another about construction material, then pulled out a gun. He came to be known as the "honeybee killer."

Now, authorities believe the man responsible for the shootings was killed during a robbery in an Orland Park tanning salon over the weekend.
The best part of this story though, is the fact that it's another one of those super DGUs.

On Saturday, an armed robber walked into L.A. Tan and tied up a female employee at gunpoint. Before he made off with any loot, however, a customer walked into the salon.

Customer Jason McDaniel immediately tried negotiating with the gunman. He offered him $600 in cash and told him he was a new father.

"I don't care about any of that (bleep)," the gunman replied, ordering McDaniel to get behind the counter.

McDaniel was able to grab the gun from the robber, and during the struggle, shot him twice. The gunman, later identified as 48-year-old Gary Amaya, died an hour later.
Now that's a real hero, that McDaniel. Anyone can carry a gun around all the time and shoot bad guys whenever they act up, but it takes a real man to take the gun off one of them and blast him with it.

I thought you are not into all that macho stuff? And what is a “real woman” supposed to be?

  2. You may think he's tough for taking that gun away, but he still partaked in needless gun violence.

He should've held the guy till the police arrived.

  5. A real man...why quibble with semantics, TS?
I'm a real person and I always try to do what I have to do when I have to do it!
When the crap comes down, I aspire to be real enough to deal with it. That's the best we can do.

  7. "Real man" was my attempt at a bit of subtle humor.

I like what BantheNRA said. The "real man" may very well have executed the guy needlessly. The article said there was a struggle, but that's like when the cops say the guy with a knife lunged at them. What else are they gonna say after the guy's dead?

  8. mike - reading some of ban's other comments it appears he would be ok with the cops showing up and just shooting the guy regardless of whether or not the situation was under control. He advocates death by firing squad for straw purchasers, so police shooting a suspected criminal even if he is no immediate threat does not seem like a far leap for him to accept.
