I don't think getting shot makes someone a hero, but the determination to live and the strength to recover certainly do.
He goes on to say how this trauma has helped him put things in perspective, to, as he put it, "change his view" about the importance of family compared to work."I could feel blood oozing out of me from different points of my body. I was actually waiting to see the light or take my last breath. When that didn't happen I got mad and tried to tell myself to control the breathing to try to minimize the blood flow."
I couldn't help wondering how he feels about lax gun laws, which, even in his home state, contribute towards gun violence.
