Man Shoots Girfriend - Takes Her to Hospital - Gets Arrested

The Wall Street Journal reports

A Hudson Valley is being held without bail after police say he shot his girlfriend in the face, then brought her to a hospital.

Police in the Ulster County town of Lloyd tell local media outlets that 27-year-old Jorge Marrero used a handgun to shoot Lauren Watts during an argument last Sunday in their apartment in the hamlet of Highland.

Marrero took Watts to Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie after the shooting. The hospital then notified police that a shooting victim was being treated there.

Marrero was charged with felony counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
You have to have a really explosive anger problem to do something like that. Unfortunately, this kind of rage is not limited to criminals.  A certain percentage of lawful gun owners have it too, just like all other societal ills.

One thing for sure, whether the bad actor is a criminal or a legitimate gun owner, guns are bad news for women. The gun-rights fanatics are so defensive about this, recently they were arguing that female-on-male domestic violence is a factor. They always demand statistics and proof, then when it's provided they ignore it.

There's definitely a violence problem in the US.  Guns make it worse.

  3. Once again, Mikeb, you wring your hands and say that something should be done. The problem is that typically for your side and for leftists in general, that "something must be done" leads to bad programs and laws that achieve no good result.

  4. And doing nothing has not improved a damned thing.

Gun control has shown to be effective, lack of gun control has not.

    1. The kind of gun control that you praise all the time, namely that in Europe, works because ordinary Europeans didn't have as many guns as we do to begin with and lived in societies that accept government control in all areas of the lives of citizens. America has lots of guns and an anti-authoritarian culture.

But the second half of your comment is also wrong. Gun laws have been loosening since the late eighties, while violent crime has dropped over the same period.

  5. Women making choices...Numbers of women buying hunting rifles and guns for self-defense on rise. From a liberal magazine. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/03/11/number-of-us-women-buying-guns-for-hunting-and-personal-defense-spikes-sharply.html

You're right Doggone...gun control has been shown to be effective. Just ask Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler and Mao Zedong.

    1. Let's put it this way, gun-rights advocates are a tiny fringe element of the bigger group called gun owners. Women are insignificant in this picture. That's because they lack the testosterone and ego which drives insecure men to arm themselves.

    2. Keep telling yourself that, Mikeb. Keep telling yourself that all those good minorities also don't feel the need or the want for a gun. We'll keep looking at the sales figures and reports from gun shops and so forth.
