The Truth About Guns

...they're used to kill innocent people.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Police searched for a gunman who wore a painter’s mask as he set fire to a home before going on a shooting spree early Saturday, killing a father and his 4-year-old son and injuring a woman and two other young children near Los Angeles.
The 30-year-old father was shielding two of his children when he was shot, Inglewood Police Chief Mark Fronterotta said.

  1. They're also used to save innocent lives--more times than to take them. They're also used for a number of purposes that have nothing to do with killing any person.

    1. I disagree with that. Guns are definitely not preventing 35,000 deaths a year. That's absolutely ridiculous.

    2. You're right there. The best studies put the number at 1.5 million at least.

    3. "Preventing deaths" is what we're talking about, not every possible thing you can call a DGU from murder to shooting at a snake.

    4. If I shoot a poisonous snake that's posing a danger to me, that's a defensive gun use. But those numbers are about how often good citizens save themselves from a thug (what you call a human) causing harm.

  2. Yep, all of this in CA, the Brady's paradise state with all the assault weapons bans, registration, 10 round limits, etc.

It's a good thing this fella had access to a gun, what would have happened if he used explosives to blow up the houses? He could have killed everyone.

  3. Used to save innocent lives more times than to take them? I'd like to see stats on that. I assume the majority of times one could argue they were used to save something (lives/freedom/property/ect.) the enemy that caused the need for the saving were also using guns. It's kind of a wash in this case. A very violent wash. It's called war.

    1. We're not talking about war here. My comment relates to defensive gun uses here in America. You can read a summary of the data here:

    2. Citing Bruce Krafft for an honest opinion on guns is pretty funny. He's the TTAG professional spin doctor. No one does it better, as Carly said.

    3. Mikeb, Krafft provides sources for his claims and goes through the reasoning. I can see why you'd doubt him.

  4. Liberals: Killing millions everyday.
Go to Brazil if you don't like guns. I hear there is no crime at all there. Strict guns laws made it that way.
    2nd Amendment. Get over it.
