The State of New York has yet to pass legislation with the intended purpose to achieve a de facto prohibition of the possession of firearms by civilians. Fortunately it is still possible (however difficult under some localities) for a private citizen to legally purchase a firearm in the State (and city) of New York, despite the best efforts of the legislature.
Abortion as been deemed a right implicit in the Constitution, and the lawful practice of such is not dependent on "need" for legal protection. The presence of a medical emergency which may necessitate the termination of pregnancy presents the need for such a clinic regardless of the proliferation of contraceptives. A women may intend to become pregnant, and upon fruition of such a pleasurable endeavor, may have the misfortune to discover that the fetus is suffering from a ailment (possibly caused by a chromosomal malady or an in-utero infection) which would present the need (or compelling reason) to end the pregnancy.
Ian, Yes, suffering from an ailment, or maybe the baby is the wrong sex, or perhaps mommy or daddy gets a case of neonaticide. Either stopping a beating heart is wrong or it isn't.
It is wrong for anyone -- including judges, legislators, or voters -- to declare that an entire class of human life has no rights. Rights do not depend on how many cells we have in our bodies, how smart we are, or what race we are.
Abortions end human lives. A women has no right to end a human life.
Beyond abortion, what a women does with her body is her choice.
And what if not aborting the pregnancy will kill both mother and child, should both die? cause my friends wife nearly had to do so, and none of us who know her would have thought less of her.
you're an idiot, but hey, don't worry about it, Bigotry is the norm. God forbid tolerance exist in this country. I'm sure you don't understand the meaning of the word tolerance unfortunately, and I don't have the patience required to pound the concept into your head, but I really suggest you find someone who does, maybe an elementary school teacher?
Of course, the tolerance argument can be applied to so many things, abortion, homosexuality, gun control idiots, the frothing gun advocates that make the rest of us look bad, but hey, this is America, no need for tolerance right?
I give guarded support to the death penalty, although I see it as being practically more of a burden than it's worth in most cases. I also support holding people responsible--whether in a criminal or a civil manner, depending on the circumstances--if they have an accident with a gun. Those two are for the same reason.
As a woman how about you leave that to me to decide? If a woman is attacked then she has the right to end a life, weather it's the child of her rapist. Or the would be rapist, who are you to tell me I MUST give birth to the child of the man who attacked me. ( What IF speaking ) How about this the govt. stays out of it as in if some one with money wants to open his abortion clinic of his or her own. Then they put there money and people who want it fund it, that way taxes of people who don't agree with it don't have to pay for. Only those who do, granted health and safety inspections take place.
In South Carolina, prosecutors have charged a woman with murdering her fetus, claiming her abuse of cocaine caused a stillbirth. This is the latest in a series of criminal charges again pregnant women for using alcohol or drugs.
For I know she did it to kill the kid, doing cocaine really, last I checked that's a crime but drinking is bad also but women are allowed to do that. Do me a favor and read all of what I said. Again if you don't agree with it then why should you have to pay taxes for it? So instead of making it a federal or even a state thing, just let some one who's willing to open his own clinic do it and get funding from women who go in. Lets be honest if a women is pregnant and douse not want the unborn baby. Either she will have a safe abortion or, take matters into her own hands. Like suicide you can prolong it but if some one wants to kill them self, bad enough they will do it. So I say don't make it illegal let some one with money and people who want it pay for it and not the tax payers.
The thing is, she was not charged for cocaine, illegal drug use, but with murdering her fetus. How can that possibly be if a woman has a right to her own body?
I sure agree with that last comment by Mikeb. I am disgusted by how many people mostly men are trying to tell women what to do with their own bodies. Men act like the government is removing their penises by saying they can't have automatic weapons or banana clips. If it really was a matter of something having to do with their bodies we wouldn't even be discussing it. I hear all kinds of Republicans saying women don't die in childbirth anymore and that is just not true. Women die and more then that they are paralized, incontinent, have heart damage, inability to have or enjoy sex, there are so many things we don't hear about that effect women for the rest of their lives. On top of this men have a 15 second part in making a baby and women risk health and life to have children, if a woman has gestational diabetes while pregnant she is 50 percent more likely to have diabetes. Also women are damaged by stretchmarks and excess weight ect from having a baby and now the Male state government of mississippi thinks that men have just as much right to the child as the woman. You can't tell me that there is no war on women in mississippi. To compound matters the women of mississippi are so brainwashed by the Republicans and the religious right that they passively sit back and take this shit!
Are you suggesting that the state of New York shouldn't have been able to pass restrictive gun laws?
ReplyDeleteUnwanted pregnancy is nearly 100% preventable, so why in the world is there a need for abortion clinics?

And guns are a right explicitly named in the Constitution, so the same logic applies.
DeleteThe exercise of a right "is not dependent on a "need" for legal protection"?
DeleteMy, what a novel idea!

I'm pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, and pro-gun rights--all for the same reason.

Male anti-abortion fanatics are simply misogynists who want to control women. They don't really care about the fetuses, that's just a pretense.
DeleteNo need to even comment on the stupidity of that statement.
