The above comment was not aimed at you Greg, but to the absurdity of Mike's subject.
Let's close all but five car dealers to save gas. Let's close all but five food stores so people won't get fat. Let's close all but five hospitals to save on health care. Let's close all but five public swimming pools to save water. Let's close all but five power producing plants to save on electricity.
Let's get rid of all but five anti gun blogs to save sanity!!!
The absurdity is that in Texas it's really hard for women to exercise their Constitutionally protected rights. Don't you think something's wrong with that? Or do you believe in the Constitution only when it fits your own personsl world view?
No Mike, its not hard for ANY woman to exercise their constitutional rights. Not at all. But Mike, like you and your anti constitutional posters keep bleating, rights are not unlimited. They have "common sense" (as is the phrase you like to use) regulations attached to them for the good of the public, or to protect them from themselves.
If you want those rights to be unlimited, then ALL civil rights are to be treated equally. UNLIMITED rights for ALL of the enumerated civil rights Mike, ALL of them.
Mikeb, I've stated many times that I want all rights treated with equal respect. I oppose the abortion ban and hope it gets thrown out. What I can't understand is how you pick and choose rights.
Texas Colt carry, you consider what Texas has done with abortion rights is "common sense?"
Greg, you are the one who picks and chooses. You don't give a shit about people who want to be safe when they go to the movies or school as long as your convenience is not bothered. Every day we see stories of lawful gun owners doing bad things with their guns. What about people's right to be free of that?
Mike, just because Texas did it doesn't mean I personally approve of it. You compared one civil right to another trying to create disparity. I am trying to show how that doesn't work by your own standards of restrictions.
All civil rights are to be treated equally or they are not much rights at all, don't you think?
Second civil rights in Texas is HEAVILY restricted and expensive. I would say the that in Texas its easier to get an abortion than to get your CHL here and cheaper as well as quicker. The civil rights pertaining to firearms in Texas has been heavily infringed upon, but we are still working on that too.
I do care about the safety of people at schools and theaters. That's why I carry wherever it's legal. But let's notice something: You whine about profiling when it's against your preferred group, but you're profiling carry license holders on the basis of the actions of a tiny number of people, many of whom do not have carry licenses.
There is no right to exclude people you simply don't like. When someone causes actual harm, that can be addressed. But until then, your rights aren't being violated.
There are many parallels between Texas abortion laws and gun control. Both are infringing on rights in whatever way that is politically feasible. This author is using the old "you're a hypocrit because I'm a hypocrit" argument, though a bit more honest than most gun controllers who claim to only be after criminal access.
You love to get a lot of mileage out of the different ways abortion and guns are treated, but consider:
ReplyDelete1. Many people genuinely believe that the fetus is fully human, deserving of the same level of protection that you want to give to home invaders.
2. There are people who support both gun rights and abortion rights.
My wife would disagree.

I figured that, Texas.

Actually I don't whine about profiling. I have defended the Stop and Frisk program as well as the excesses of the Toughest Sheriff in America.
DeleteWhat I argue against is your attempts to separate it from racism and your even sillier attempts to claim it doesn't happen.
Texas Colt carry said, in a paroxysm of insanity,
Delete"I would say the that in Texas its easier to get an abortion than to get your CHL here and cheaper as well as quicker."
How is it insane to speak the truth Mike? Have REALLY looked at getting either in Texas?
