Yo, Dayton, TN, maybe check Snopes before you start spending your money on pro-gun billboards:
From the story:
“Hitler’s infamous quote … is probably a fraud and likely never uttered,” Harcourt wrote. “It has been the subject of much research, all of it fruitless, and has now entered the annals of urban legends.”Idiots. Dayton, TN was first in the news for giving us the Scopes Monkey Trial, and back in 2004 they tried to outlaw homosexuality. Looks like ignorance and stupidity still reign supreme down there. Must be something in the water.
[...]
A 1938 Nazi government law prohibited Jews from owning guns, “but simultaneously liberalized gun restrictions for most everyone else. The law totally deregulated the sale of rifles, shotguns and ammunition,” the blog states.
What I find most interesting is how ignorance and stupidity often go hand in hand with gun-rights fanaticism. One need look no further than my own little blog.
What's your opinion? Please leave a comment.
Ignorance and stupidity go hand in hand with gun control fanaticism--fixed it for you.
ReplyDeleteWhat I find most interesting is how ignorance and stupidity often go hand in hand with gun-rights fanaticism. One need look no further than my own little blog.
ReplyDeleteWell, so far I have yet to encounter any reason to change my mind that the very existence of "gun-rights fanaticism" is a myth, but I have certainly seen no shortage of "ignorance and stupidity" on your "own little blog."
I do my best to argue against it, but that tends to be an effort to educate the ineducable. Ah, well--we all have our windmills at which to tilt.
Yet, in the Warsaw ghetto 5,000 Jews had guns and did use them against Germans (contrary to popular belief). They were immediately executed by far superior forces. More guns would not have saved the Jews of Germany. It took all the super powers at the time to stop the killing of Jews and others. By then 6 million Jews alone (and millions of non Jews) were murdered. In fact, making gun laws less restrictive in Germany contributed to more murders of innocent people.
ReplyDeleteMore guns in the hands of Jews could have forced the Germans to devote greater numbers to internal security, hastening the end of the war. Enough more guns could have stopped the whole program.
DeleteBullshit, Greg. That's one of the stupidest comments you've ever made.
DeleteI realize it's technically true. If the Jews had had a MILLION times more guns, they would have been a real thorn in the side of the Third Reich.
But, the number of "more guns" required to have made a difference is so great that it makes you're statement not only stupid but idiotic.
Methinks thou dost protest too much.
DeleteGreg's statement was true, and it didn't display the naivete you accuse him off. Excuse me, Stupidity you accuse him of. He didn't imply that a few more guns would have stopped the Holocaust, but that as you increased the number of guns in Jewish hands, you would have increased their ability to screw with Nazi security and supply lines the way other resistance movements (some Jewish, some not) made a habit of doing through the war. It's a sliding scale from a few more guns up to a shitload more guns.
Exactly. The German war machine was dependent on a steady supply of workers and production at home and on the general compliance of the population.
DeleteNonsense. I realize you gun-rights fanatics have a lot invested in the bizarre idea of armed men fighting off an oppressive government, but the Jews against the Nazis is not a good example.
DeleteMikeb, compare two situations with many of the same people involved:
Delete1. Jews in Nazi Germany in 1938
2. Jews in Judea in 1948
What was the difference?
Mike sticks his fingers in his ears and says, "I CAN'T HEAR YOU--LALALALALALALALALALALALA!"
Delete"Well, so far I have yet to encounter any reason to change my mind that the very existence of "gun-rights fanaticism" is a myth,"
ReplyDeleteOh, really?
Gunloons are now spreading the theory that Obama produced the killer tornadoes that devastated OK.
"* Floods, hurricanes and other natural disasters. Government conspirators are manipulating the world’s weather (using, Trochmann claims, technology at an Alaska project called HAARP), causing all these horrible weather patterns that affect crop production around the world. The intent, he says, is to induce food shortages, which will become a pretext for imposing martial law. Then, he says, they’ll start rounding people up."
Since you've yet to define "gunloon," it's no surprise that you use it to mean whatever you wish, but here you're conflating groups People who worry about HAARP are a special bunch, and I haven't seen much of that discussed on this site.
DeleteI have a request, Jade. Since you have admin rights here, can you approve comments in the moderation queue when you stop by to make your posts and comments? Especially with Mike being on another continent, conversation pretty much dies for the day once we hit late afternoon/evening. Thanks buddy!
DeleteI generally delete any comment that whines and complains about the commenting policy. But, I don't think I've ever deleted one of yours, TS, so I'll let it stand. But, it was a close call because Jadegold already knows what his rights are around here and your reminding him of that sounds awfully like complaining.
DeleteDude, he wasn't whining about your commenting policy--he wasn't even commenting on the content policy you implemented. He was just making a suggestion in an attempt to speed up the posting of comments so that we could have more animated discussions like we used to have here when we'd go back and forth 2-3 times per day.
DeleteThat's not a complaint about what you delete, etc. Lighten up.
Mikeb, you allow Laci and Jade to pile things on without requiring them to stick around and answer anything. But then, why should we expect fairness from control freaks?
DeleteIs that what you think my role is around here, to ALLOW and then to REQUIRE certain behavior of my co-bloggers? No, you know better than that because you've been around here long enough. So, why would you even say something like that?
DeleteYour dissembling and pretending not to get things is tedious at best and just plain dishonest at worst.
It's your blog, as you keep point out. What I don't understand is why you tolerate the hit-and-run tactics of Dog Gone, Laci, and Jade. I'm sure they realize that their arguments are all wind, but you, at least, carry on the conversations that you start.
DeleteAre you saying Jadegold doesn't have permission to approve comments anymore? If so, how would I have known that? I thought he was just being lazy, so I asked nicely.
DeleteRight, you haven't ever deleted/not approved one of my comments (though some may have ended up in the spam trap), and I'd like to keep that streak alive.
Show of hands, please. How many here actually have been to Dayton, TN? I have on several occasions. I know this: They're smart enough to realize that they have a tourist attraction every summer. They do a good job re-enacting parts of the trial that draws in customers by the thousands.
ReplyDeleteThat's what this billboard is. It's marketing. It's selling to an audience. Does it distort the facts a bit to make a point? Yes. But far be it from gun control freaks ever to do that...
"Does it distort the facts a bit to make a point?"
DeleteNo, Greg, it repeats a blatant lie made up by some follow gun-rights fanatic of yours and then repeated thousands of times by the rest of you. That's not "distort the facts a bit." That's TOTAL BULLSHIT.
I knew we could depend on you to downplay the mendacity and dishonesty of your side. If you had any integrity you would denounce this crap as unacceptable. But as we learned in the SYG discussions, you don't.
1. Were guns registered in Germany?
Delete2. Did Hitler make it illegal for the Jews to be armed?
The people who put up that sign probably had no idea that Hitler didn't say that statement. But the essence of it is true. A disarmed group within a complaint populace leads exactly to what is implied.
Regarding your other point, I have plenty of integrity. I call things as I see them. The fact that I rarely see things your way only goes to show that I'm not on your side.
