video link

Investigators plan to meet with the district attorney this week to determine whether charges need to be filed in the shooting death of an Oakboro teenager.

Police say Will Hughes was shot by his friend Friday around 10:30 p.m. in the 600 block of East First Street. They say his friend was showing him the gun when it fired, hitting the 19 year old.

Hughes died at Stanly County Medical Center.

Police believe the shooting was accidental.

  1. Lets see, the shooting occurred late Friday evening. And they are meeting with the District Attorney this week. Doesn't seem that lengthy to me. This isn't TV.

    2. It doesn't have to be like TV. It has to be like those cases in which a felon is responsible for the accidental shooting or a drug dealer who has paraphernalia around the house when the cops come. In those cases they have no trouble identifying the responsible person and locking his ass up. Anything else is special treatment for civilian gun owners.

    3. Mikeb, when there's an obvious crime--such as drugs lying in plain sight or being a felon in possession--the police have a better chance of not coming up short. But when the people under investigation aren't known criminals, they have to be more careful. That may not be fair, but it's not special treatment for gun owners.

    4. It damn sure is special treatment for gun owners. The misuse of guns is not taken seriously enough. That's special treatment.

  2. Keep in mind, guys, that Mikeb is the anti-MLK, and believes that "an arrest delayed is an arrest denied."

    1. When people do things wrong with guns, like negligently fire them and hit other people, there is no reason to delay the arrest. When extenuating circumstances are present, drug possession, past felony convictions, etc., there is no delay. The reason there is in so many cases is that "accidents" with guns are not taken seriously enough.

Your fucking gratuitous insults and glib personal attacks have reached their limit. The next time moderation goes on it'll be thanks to you and your smart mouth, Kurt.
