The Republican Base has Elements that Are Animated by Racism

Man with a Muckrake

Over 50 years after Congress passed the Civil Rights Act, the issue of race is back in the political headlines, after comments from Attorney General Eric Holder and events marking the anniversary of the law’s passage renewed the dialogue over race relations in the 21st century.
Rep. Steve Israel, D-New York, said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that “not all” of his GOP colleagues are racist but “the Republican base does have elements that are animated by racism.”
What can be said of the GOP can also be said of the gun rights movement.

  1. And of the Democratic base (Hence Hillary's camp starting the Obama's a Muslim rumors, etc.) and of the gun control movement (Tennessee legislator opposing Constitutional Carry out of fear that every gangbanger in Memphis would be carrying), and pretty much every group. Lots of people are assholes, and you can find assholes in any group.

    1. The assholes on your pro gun "side" are deadly assholes, they kill.

    2. I don't believe Hillary's people are responsible for that.

    3. Pretty sure there was a minor scandal when one of them got sacked for promoting the Muslim thing or the Kenyan thing. Even if Hillary didn't start it, though, there was still plenty of talk about how it was influencing people in the Democratic base, so the point still holds--problems with racists in the base are not one party's exclusive domain.

  2. Very authoritative, an opinion of a liberal politician posted on a liberal blog. Methinks that perhaps still trying to deflect the historical stain of the fact that the racist Jim Crow laws, many of which restricted firearm possession by minorities, were passed and defended by, you guessed it, Democrats. Who needs animation when you can claim invention.

    1. That Jim Crow and the Democrats stuff is as obsolete as the 2A. In today's world it's the conservatives who are the worst racists.

    2. Another ridiculous comparison that hasn't existed for a hundred tears. Try reality, I mean keeping up with the facts of our day. Is it Democrats calling our first black president a mongrel? Is it Democrats trying to take away minority voters rights? Please tell me the military is giving a more reality based education than the garbage you just used as an example. Laughable.

    4. Anonymous: When did the Obama is a Muslim stuff start--what was going on at that time and who would have benefitted?

Better work on those math skills Anon. In fact, just this last week, there was a big happening at the LBJ library celebrating the 50 year anniversary of the passage of the civil rights act.

    6. It's short-sighted to blame it on Hillary. That poisonous shit came from the Republicans who were looking ahead. The joke is even with that and the birther shit and all the other nonsense, they lost - twice.

    7. Keep making your stupid arguments on something that hasn't existed for decades proving your lack of any intelligent points.

    8. Seriously? You're going to blame one Democratic group's attempts to take down another Democrat on Republicans? Even when at least one Hillary staffer went down for her part in it? Maybe she was a secret Republican who got into the Hillary campaign just to do that...

  3. I'm sure it a great comfort to you control freaks to believe that all the opposition to your demands are caused by racism or sexism or ingrown toenails, but if you expect others to listen to you, you should every once in a while get in touch with reality.

    1. Since your NRA has a know racist as one of its leaders, yes racism is part of the problem, especially when your NRA won't even disavow his racist comments.
