Gunloons seem to believe the Germany of the 30's and 40's was a country held hostage by a tyrannical dictator named Hitler.
The fact is Germany embraced Hitler; they liked a leader who told them their woes were caused by others (Jews, Gypsies, Commies, Gays, etc.) Pretty much the same as today's GOP.
Jade, for one not all of Germany embraced Hitler as you seem to imply and tow, the same can be said for the left in blaming the NRA, blaming the republicans, blaming the Koch brothers, the Oil Industry and pretty much every "special interest" that doesn't agree with liberal causes. MikeZ
Philosophically they have more in common, but no. I don't believe any in our current political system can reasonably rationally be compared to Hitler. Once one party or the other decides to round up and kill about 6 million people then maybe we can have that discussion. The Hitler comparison for either side does nothing to foster discussion but it creates a powerful emotional response that unfortunately meshes well with the lefts playbook. Much like what is often done on this site. You appear to believe we as gun rights supporters beliefs are evil, believe your philosophy is wrong. Unfortunately wrong is easier to prove but evil is easier to sell. And that's what the hitler comparison does. It helps sell the philosophy that the opposition is evil. MikeZ
Clearly my intent didn't go through so I will clarify, it's the opposition is evil, emotion driven argument that he left loves, I was not directing it towards the specific Hitler comparison, so the lack of clarity was my bad. Though there was significant bush as hitler, and republicans as nazi propaganda, but I digress. If you can call Orlins comparison stupid and the stuff of right wing lunatics, we can just as easily call Jades response stupid and the stuff of left wing lunatics. The only difference is the group being compared. And since by your own admission you agree with that particular Hitler comparison, if it was sarcasm by all means clarify, I don't want to assume what you do or don't think. You appear to agree with the Hitler comparison when it makes the right look bad but not when it makes the left look bad. And again for the record I believe any Hitler comparison is foolish, and stifles rational discussion. MikeZ
Obama has not been declared a war criminal by many nations around the world, Bush (and many of his administration officials) have. One abuse of power is not equal to another and judging abuses by the number of people who died because of that abuse, seems a reasonable and rational starting point.
The Brown shirts went to public meetings, shouted speakers down, ripped up signs, pushed people and started fights. The right wingers did that at the public Town Hall Health Care meetings, and brought their guns along for extra intimidation. Did you speak out against that injustice against free speech? As the poem says, it will be to late and changing parties will not help you.

You mean kinda like Obama, Holder, and the Dems blame all our troubles on whites, tea party people, and heterosexuals, yada, yada, yada.

Now that's a Hitler comparison I can agree with.

Oh, so it's Liberals who are rightly compared to Hitler?

"that unfortunately meshes well with the lefts playbook."
DeleteWhhaaaat? Hitler comparisons are the stuff of right-wing lunatics - almost exclusively. Just read Orlin's stupid comment up thread.

DeleteI'm with Mike Z. in getting away from Hitler comparisons. Let's just call Bush a war criminal and Obama a fairly-feckless Black president.
DeleteLet us know when the GOP sets up gas chambers, mass firing squad, slave camps and so on like Hitler did and I will reconsider my party affiliation.

And SEIU didn't do the same things, or worse, in favor of Obamacare?
DeleteNo, it's not the same.
